Is any one out there eating healthy but just not counting calories?& still loosign weight? For me calorie counting makes me too obsessive, so i dont count them. I can eat well all day and not feel too hungry and not count calories and still loose weight...but im worried i might be under eating. Im 19 now, and when i was 16 i lost about 26 pounds, which was great, but i only worked out 3-4x a week, around 20 minutes a day and then i only ate 3 meals, the third being the largest...and i lost about a kilo every week...i feel now that i was under eating! i was frustrated, crying every second day...and i worked out now, that i was burning only 230 calories with this 20 minute work out, when i was 16...so surely i mustve undereaten or has my metabolism slowed down? lol i cant help to thin kthat i have damaged my body. help!

Counting calories is really the only way you can know if you're eating enough. I count calories, but not in an obsessive way. I just make sure that what I'm eating is under a certain number of calories, and not high in sodium. I also work out, but again, not obsessively. I work out every other day, and on days I'm not working out, I'm eating around 1700 calories. This week, I lost 2.5 lbs.0

I admire you for getting a handle on it now, not 10 years from now. Drink your water, follow the advice on this website, and succeed!0

if you are worried about under eating, log your calories for a couple of days to check...and then just periodically to keep in check. You have to do what works best for you and if logging is going to cause a problem then maybe you shouldn't BUT you also need to do whats safe so just compromise and do it occasionally, especially if its something new that you are eating0

I find that counting calories gives you a more accurate picture of your eating habits and food choices. Having all the information right there in front of you helps to see where your weak points may be, where you can improve, and how your eating more healthy. I do log in every day, as it's a great barometer for me. Having been on WW and counting points, I found I was more stressed trying to keep within my daily points than it is to count calories.
I believe whatever works for you is the best. I really don't think you've "damaged" anything, and yes, as we get older, our metabolism changes as do a lot of other things lol!! Keep it where you are comfortable, losing weight but not too rapidly, and get your work-outs 3 or 4 times a week. Enjoy life and don't stress about the numbers!!0 -

Under eating is weight loss... You eat less than you usually do and some exercise you lose weight. You lost 26lbs didn't you, are you uhealthy??? i doubt it... so what's the big deal? People are dying to get the results you've gotten. Anytime you lose weight your metabolism will slow down, you're not moving around as much weight so it's not as much stress on your body.
I eat 1 time a day, about 2000-2500 calories, i exercise around 15mins, because i have a bad foot an'd can't do much cardio right now. It will get better. I lost about 30lbs in 7 weeks doing this. If i am getting results why change it?
The issue with your calories, you don't have to count them, there are many people who do "portion control." A good tip i like is get a small plate 1/3 protein 2/3's fruits or vegetables, that's it.
The issue with "under eating" is not consuming enough in terms to support muscle mass. A common formula is eat half of your weight in protein. Find out how many calories your "goal weight" requires, and eat at that level.0 -
I like to decide what to eat and how much exercise to do without the tracker - and then enter it all at the end of the day when I'm finished. It helps me pace myself for the long term.
I think it's important for my body's signals to be more important than the calorie tracker in my decision-making process. If I don't eat exactly what I want to eat then I end up with very frustrating nutrient deficiencies. And sometimes I need a rest day even if it works out to a calorie surplus for the day. Entering everything at the end of the day makes it a healthier and less OCD process for me - the calorie tracker will gently influence my future decisions but it won't overrule my body's intuition.0 -
I haven't counted my calories in weeks and I've realized this works best for me. I know what foods to eat and what foods to never ever eat and I eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm full...and I am having more success this way. I haven't been giving my mind and body enough credit to lead the way.0

I think people underestimate their daily needs by calories. My doctor told me the average person should eat about 10 times their current weight and only if you are try to lose weight cut back 500 calories each day. It helps me to not obsess. I can eat a heck of a lot of calories by that standard as long as I am eating healthy carbs (no sugars, white floury crap, rice, potatoes...you get my drift). I eat lots of healthy fats and proteins and I love my veggies each day. I have lost 12 lbs over the last couple of weeks and I feel satisfied, full and just happy with how my body is starting to feel. Best of luck on your journey! Don't obsess. It ruins your day!0
