5 weeks from now you'll weigh...

When your diary tells you at the end of the day what you'll way in 5 weeks.... Does it care if you're eating vegis/fruit compared to candybars/marshmellows if you have the same amount of calories?
I'm not really sure how to ask this question any better. Sorry.
I know vegis are healthier, and candy isn't good for you. I'm asking this only for the sake of whether or not MFP's diary cares what you eat, or only cares about the total calories to calculate what you'll weigh in 5 weeks.

It doesnt really matter what you eat, it's how much you eat.0

I'm not an expert but I do believe it does matter what you eat. While calories are calories junk food has more sugars, fats and sodium so it can change your numbers. I have noticed mine be a bit higher when I throw in some junk - even if I'm under my calorie goal.0

That's a good question, I'm not sure myself. Does it take into consideration how much sugar you've eaten vs. protien? If you go over your protein parameter, does it say that you'll lost the weight slower, or is it just based on calories alone?0

Nope - if you post 1200 calories of Marshmallows, it will give you the same results as if you eat 1200 calories of chicken and salad.
EDIT: This is NOT true in real life - just in the calculations.0 -
I took a nutrition class and I found out that there are such thing as good and bad calories... so to put it simple.... yes there is a difference in eating candy and eating veggies....0

I know there's a difference. But I meant for the diary on mfp if it matters at the end of the day, or if it only tells you what you'll weigh in 5 weeks based on the calories and that's it.0 -
calories are calories any way you slice it, unfortunately.0

That's actually not true at all. It does matter what you eat for many (maybe even most) people.
I can't eat 1200 calories of carbs/sugar/prepackaged processed foods and lose the same amount as a lower whole grain only carb/higher lean protein 1200 calories.0 -

Thank you, that's exactly what I was asking lol. Some people didn't seem to understand my question. This is what I was looking for.0 -

I was kind of wondering the same thing! Thanks!0 -
No it's only calculating cal in/cal out. It's also not an exact science and certain food WILL help you lose more weight because your body burns more calories to break them down (such as natural forms of protein).0

Yeah have fun with that....0 -

That's awesome that you know this. :happy:0 -
i was told that calories are calories, which is how cookie diets work.0

i'm not yet keen on how MFP works, but I do know you will feel soooooooo much better eaating healthy than unhealthy, regardless of calorie intake. Weight loss is not just about how you look, it's also about feeling great.0

Define "work". Yes people lose weight, but a larger percentage is going to be muscle as opposed to a diet which incorporates healthy foods and a good balance of each macronutrient.0 -
It just takes into account calories, not what kind of calories. I'm pretty sure that's why there is a disclaimer in fine print below it. LOL!0

This. Now how healthy you will be is an entirely different story. That all candy diet make keep you skinny, but it won't keep you healthy.0 -
The great MFP computer, like all computers, can't calculate value and how it makes us feel. I'd love to eat 1370 calories worth of chocolate every day, but I know I'd feel and look horrible. I think the way they try to make up for the calculation is to allow you to also track your macronutrients and certain vitamins. This, I guess, is the only way to really measure the "quality" of your calories.
Does this make sense?0 -

And this ^^. I think it's once again come down to the idea that skinny doesn't equal healthy. And for many of us, at least me, healthy is the goal. Even though I'd love to reach skinny, too.0 -

Yeah have fun with that....
That person said that in refference to how the MFP diary calculates what you'll weigh in 5 weeks. Which is what my question was. We all know that eating crap will end up making you look like crap. And eating good will help your body. But that WASN'T what my question was about.
My question was simple, how does that MFP diary calculate what you'll weigh in 5 weeks. Does the diary take into account what you even eat, or does it only care about the calories....
Half the people on the forum understand, and half have no clue and are just getting annoyed with the people who DO understand LOL WOW!0 -
The 5 week forecast takes a snapshot of your TODAYs calories when you click complete, and projects it out over 5 weeks. Mine's been close in the 6 months I've been here other than my 2 stalls of 3 weeks duration where no weight-changes at all happened.
I use the "5 week forecast" as what it is. If I eat like today (calorie wise) I'll weigh.... less than I do now... good since that's my goal or OOPS on my over-days... OMG I'd weigh more than I do currently! Back on the correct path. Helps to show which days I should be eating closer to... which really is the days that are right at or near my daily goal0 -

lol I understand completely. The person didn't phrase it in that way though, but if that's what they meant, then alright.0 -
How about 1200 cals of salted peanuts in a day?
The protein's good but the salt will send you up the scale without question, even if only temporarily.
Don't mind me.. I'm grumpy because I'm up a pound from eating at a restaurant TWICE yesterday (belated Father's Day lunch and a birthday dinner), even though I ate "healthy" and stayed under my calories for the day. Oh well, I'll hook my mouth up to the garden hose today and blast those evil sodiums to smithereenies!0 -
i was told that calories are calories, which is how cookie diets work.
Not true. I'm not pro cookie diet, but they really aren't cookies per se. They are mostly fiber and some nutrients shaped like a cookie. The cookie part is a mind game to make you think you are eating sweats all day and losing. So you eat these things all day with loads of water and then a "sensible" high protein dinner. You feel full because of the fiber and water.0 -
Dont get so cranky people.. just eat a few marshmallows!! just kidding0
