Fresh fruit is killing my sugar!

So I love fresh fruit especially during the summer months, I mean I could (but don't) eat an entire watermelon by myself I love it! But it kills my sugar intake every day...I'm trying to keep a watch on it but I do not want to cut out my fresh fruit. Any suggestions or advice that you could give me because it would be greatly appreciated!

Try not to be too legalistic about it, you're eating fruit, not M&M's ;) I go over my sugar a little each day, it's not harmed me yet.

The sugar from fresh fruit is different than sugar from say... a Snickers. It is a natural sugar. Try and not fret too much about it. It'll be fine. :) I know they say sugar is sugar, but I disagree with that. There IS a difference between the natural sugars in fruit and processed sugars in say candy or whatever.

Berries are the lowest in sugar so you may try that? Recommended amount of fruit per day is 2 servings = 2 cups
  • Just to verify, I'm not worried about my sugar intake with other things, just with the fresh fruit...I haven't had a candy bar or anything in that capacity in forever!

If you're going over with fruit - then I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as you have a pretty balanced diet, you'll be fine.

I don't track my sugar at all (and since I'm not a fan of fruit - my sugar isn't coming from a natural source all the time) and I do okay. :)

Fruit does contain a lot of sugar, but it also contains a lot of vitamins, fiber and other great things that your body loves! The fiber in many fruits combats against a spike in blood sugar after eating it, and so it doesn't affect you in the same way that sugar from candy or chocolate does (even though they are both sugar.)

In summary: keep eating your fruit!!! The benefits outweigh the negatives.

I refuse to believe that fresh fruit should be something I should limit - I grew up on a fruit farm and eat tons of fresh fruit and I am always way over on my daily sugar.

Since those red numbers really bug me I removed sugar from the counter so I wouldn't track it at all. I really feel that any unprocessed, whole ingredient, be it fruit, vegetable, meat or grain, is 1000 times better to eat than 1/10th the amount of some processed, manufactured rubbish 'low cal/low fat' alternative. Even if it puts you over in one category, personally I'd keep eating as much fruit as you want.

I also stopped tracking sugars because of the fruit issue. One banana always put me over for the day and too controlling to see all that red.....so bye-bye sugars!
