1 year later...and no progress

Well, it's been (little over) 1 year now, and I am back to right where I started...Plus 1.5 lbs heavier.
Last year in June I turned 25. I'd heard about this site, and signed up, ready to change my life for the better and to finally feel good about the way I looked and feel comfortable in my own skin again.
I was motivated; I'd set a weight loss goal of about 45 lbs (my ultimate goal) and I was aiming to hit it. I went to the gym about 3-4 times a week, drank fruit smoothies and nixed my coffee habit. By the beginning of July (just before the 4th), I'd lost about 6.5 lbs, and I was so excited! I was circling the 160's, and I was feeling really positive!
And then Fourth of July hit. I kept mental notes of what I'd eaten and how much, and thought I'd make up for it, and try and drink as much water as possible. Well, that turned into a few days of over-eating...which turned into me 'forgetting' to go to the gym...which turned in to 3 months of no gym...and I was so mad at myself. I thought to myself, "What is my problem? Why am I making myself fail at this? I've wanted it for so long!!" I'd try to re-encourage myself and hit the gym again, but it was never like it had been. I walk everyday at work on my breaks (mostly to avoid cabin fever), but I haven't really seen any progress...
I'm so discouraged and angry with myself.
My last sliver of motivation is a trip to Maui I'll be taking in the middle of September. I'm going to try and lose some weight, but with the way my journey has progressed so far...I just don't know.
Does anyone have any words of advice or encouragement?

I am have doing the same kind of yo-yo dieting you are talking about, the same self sabotage and finally I put my foot down and said NO MORE. (This was recently)
We have to find the motivation and desire within. You can do this, and you will but only when YOU are ready. YOU have to want this and YOU have to work for it.
I am rooting for you and I hope you find the encouragement and motivation you need to conquer your weight loss fears and move forward.
Sometimes it takes baby steps and sometimes you have to dive in head first like I did. I made too many excuses doing just a little here and there, I cleaned out my cabinets and changed what I shopped for completely and totally eliminated the bad stuff I was eating and I dedicate so much time a day to exercise.0 -
For me the big moment when I was able to change involved changing my "relationship" with food. It also involved not only wanting to lose weight but being willing to make the changes needed to make it happen. I had to learn to just pass up foods that I REALLY like. I have never had will power before, but I do now. I still enjoy food, I just enjoy finding healthy foods to eat and trying new things!
I believe that being WILLING to make the changes is the biggest thing that will help you.0 -
Quite often when we "don't succeed" we look at it as a failure and get discouraged. You know you can do it, you did well before, but fell off the horse. Get back on it. I tried to quite smoking three times, and finally managed on the fourth try. Don't quite!
One thing that works for me is to set an appointment time for going to the gym. Instead of "i'm going to the gym sometime today" it's "I'm going to the gym at 4:30 on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday." Set an appointment for yourself!
Sometimes you will have to force yourself to stay disciplined, but you can do it!!!0 -

I definitely need to kick myself in the pants and just DO IT ALREADY!!
And I will definitely make an 'appointment' with myself and hit the gym! (And no more Starbucks, you naughty, naughty drink!!)0
