We just went to our favorite mexican food restuarant, i ate 2 bites of refired beans & 2 bites of mexican rice! both of these r high n calories, so really every bite counts & i really need right now to keep it n my food dairy to keep myself accountable bc i am at the beginning of my long journey!

um... depends on how big the bite was... was it a tablespoon or a half a tablespoon...

    I don't. Don't over analyze.

I over estimate. I find out what a serving size of the items are - then I do a 1/4 of it. I figure it is more than I ate - but better over estimate than under estimate. For example, I had a small bite of cake one day - it was a VERY small bite. But, I wanted to log it. So, I found a generic entry for the type of cake I had and put in that I had a 1/4 of a piece. I KNOW it was more than I had, but it made me feel better.

I would say a bite would at the maximum 1/8 cup. A 1/4 cup would be a mouthfull.

I do a lot like this. I look at the item after I bite and try to imagine what fraction of it is gone now that I have eaten some, and log the item as that fraction. 1c of beans but I only ate one bite so it is really 1/8 c of beans...something along that line.

Although I think it's possible you *might* be overanalyzing just a teeny, tiny bit....in my opinion, a 'bite' is about a half tablespoon to a tablespoon, depending on how big of a bite you mean. Get our your measuring spoons and you will see what I mean. So, if a quarter cup is 4 tablespoons, and you had 2 bites, then you had one eighth of a cup, or 0.13 cups, or half of a quarter of a cup, depending on how the food is measured in the database. Does that make sense?

hmm great question. I would look up the serving size for each item and try to approximate the calories. And then go up 10-15 more calories then you think you ate. (ex: 150 cals in half a cup of refried beans so I'd divide that by like 3 or 4, and come up with 38 calories, I'd round it out to 50) It's always better to go higher then lower.

    This is what I do.

I usually don't log in a "bite" But if you want to, just put in a 1/4 of the serving. Like the person above said, better to over estimate than under estimate.

In my opinion, because I ran into the same problem:

That is something I had to overcome. Either you eat it and you log it... or you don't.

If there isn't a isn't a 'bite' or small serving size in MFP, I log it as the biggest one. OR I eat the full serving size. Worst case, I don't eat it at all.

It is really hard when you first start because you have to skimp out on your favorite things.

Something else I believe in -- don't set your goals so high you can't meet them. Start with something small - like you are eliminating ice cream from your sugars or something. Something I do is splurge a little every day. -Eat ONLY one thing to treat yourself. Ice cream, an iced coffee, cookies, etc. Something so that you don't feel like you are DIE-ting. Hope this helps!

Good for you for caring about being honest with yourself. I guess you have to estimate how much. Before you (or I) would have eaten the whole portion. You already win a prize for being vigilant. Was it 1/4 cup, or half that? Go from there. Good luck.

I agree that I wouldn't try to estimate a bite unless of course it was a bite or two of several things! I personally feel like that's taking things to a level that's outside of "lifestyle" and into "extreme dieting". But that's my way. However, if you are going to estimate bites I can't imagine using 1/4 as a guideline unless your stuffing your face per bite! When you put a measured serving on your plate is it 4 bites?? And overestimating your calories too much is going to leave you eating too few calories! If you must do it, then I think you need to be a little closer than just 1/4 of a serving per bite!

I have started exercise & paid major attention to serving size. so i havent really cut anything out, but fasr food & my coke & other sodas. When i ate ice cream i was eating like 8 times the serving size. Thank you! it did help!

I quick add some calories at the end of the day to account for this.
