Canadian weight loss - it's a good thing, eh?!

Hi Everyone, so glad to be here and start this life-changing journey! I've cleared out the majority of my cupboards (my teen son objected to losing his cookies, so those stay - he can eat a gazillion calories, so I made sure they're ones I don't like :P) and been reading and reading and reading...hopefully I've gained enough insight to get started.

I began learning about nutrition about five years ago...I lived overseas, in Kuwait/Saudi Arabia, and I saw how unhealthy the diet was in the family I was married into...and I refused. I was already overweight - I was NOT going to get any bigger! And, I didn't. I learned how to make healthy omlettes (for example) drank enough water to rival the camels, but I notice that while I didn't gain..I didn't lose, either. I think now that perhaps I wasn't eating enough calories??

I have about 85 pounds to lose, I'm hypothyroid, and I'm quite certain that my metabolism is not okay. I don't drop weight unless I'm at about 500 calories a day, which is impossible to keep up for long. I'm currently not taking meds, because I seem to be medication resistant to all thyroid meds currently available. I have a terrific specialist, but he's as frustrated at how my body responds as I am.

Irregardless of that though, excersize has been known to move the numbers on the scale...and before I headed back to university last fall, I dropped inches, although not pounds. Last summer I really tried hard for several months, and I saw some results from strength training - but the pounds didn't budge. Kinda frustrating.

I look forward to making friends, learning about interval/strength training - preferably NOT at the gym, as I truly find that place to be useless, it just doesn't do it for me - I live in the land of tiny asians and my self esteem drops upon parking in the parking lot - about how to balance my daily diet properly, and just generally living happily and healthily.

I really admire every one of you for being here, for what you're accomplishing or have already achieved, and hope to find the support I need to do the same!

  • Hey provincial neighbor! Welcome! I've only been here about 1.5 weeks, but love the website and all the support. I'd love to be a friend and we can figure this fitness thing out together.
