Running: Wt loss vs inches loss

So a couple weeks ago a friend of mine told me that she had talked to a runner. This person told her that when she first started running that she didn't lose any weight at all but lost a bunch of inches. I'm starting to wonder if I'm the same way. Although I have losing some weight, it's not much. Now I just did my monthly measurements and I lost another 13.75 inches thoughout my body for the month of june. That's a total of well over 30 inches in the past 3 months when I've only lost 15 pounds in 3 months. Has anybody else noticed this that also runs? Is there any truth to it? Running isn't the only cardio that I do, but I do run everyday along with doing the elliptical and turbo jam. I also lift weights.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the inches coming off, just wish the pounds would come off along with it!

You need to make sure that you are eating enough. Most runners do not eat enough so the body does not lose weight -- but with the change in fat to muscle you will lose inches.

Shoot don't worry about the lbs! If your losing inches that's great!

I'm gonna say something you hear alot on here, "Muscle weighs more than fat" so that always comes into play.

    ALSO

If you look better, and clothes fit better than who cares about numbers on a scale? Not I :)

You'll probably get bashed for that LOL. Muscle is more dense :-)

BUT.. OP: supposedly each 10lbs is a pants/dress size... I was an inch loser. I lost 45lb and dropped from a 14 to a 2. obviously that's a couple more than 4.5 pants sizes lol. Still not too far off though. I think it's just individualized. I too was a runner though. But to the first commenter.. I don't think I fueled my body right.

I have the same problem but never thought about why. I went from a size 12 to 6 after an entire year of running as my primary form of ex., but only 15 pounds in that ENTIRE year. I didn't eat back my ex calories during the time, but i think I'm going to start doing that and see what happens. Experimenting I go!

I want to see what others have to say about this too....

Well I have to agree that I probably do not eat enough. I do not usually eat back my exercise calories, not because I'm starving myself, I'm just not hungry. I guess I'm going to have to try eating a little bit more!

    Thanks for the input!
