I cried like a baby

I don't generally post anything, but today I was out for a run...and by run I mean a leisurely jog that kicked my butt.
I have finished C25K not long ago and have ran 5k a few times now, so I decided I would like to up the distance a bit and see how I do. I map out a nice 7K run, and got my mind in it. It wasn't too bad until I hit just past the 5K mark as now I am pushing my body a little more. I had been passed by a few VERY fit women running....and I mean running not jogging. I was feeling my fat self come out and started to want to quit quite bad. All of a sudden a woman passed me on her bike, turn looked at me in the eyes and gave me a thumbs up!!! It was such a small gesture but man did it help push me the last little leg...not to mention I was furiously wiping tears from my eyes. Looking back, she may have turn and gave me the finger for being in her way, but I saw a thumb.
The moral of the story is if you pass someone give them the finger and hope they take it as a compliment
No really don't be shy to give a gesture of approval, you don't know where they are in life, in their fitness journey or even just in the moment...Thank you lady in the blue shirt, you made my day!

I was just talking about this with a friend the other day! Whenever I see people running, I cheer them on. I've never seen anyone offended by it - always smiles. How awesome for you! This is really great.0

You know what? I think it's AMAZING that you can run 5K. I want to do that SO bad... but I'm kind of scared to start the program, especially this time of year because it's SO hot outside! I've been sticking to home videos like TurboJam to get my cardio in. Good on you for getting out there & doing it!0

Great story! And good for you for doing it!0

I think it was a thumbs up also. This is such a nice story. You're right, a small gesture of motivation might help get past the hurdles and obstacles that we face on our weight loss journey. (Thumbs up to you!)0

I had tears just reading your account of it. Glad it made a difference for you!0

Aww that is awesome! Whenever I am running and someone yells at me (and half the time I think its creepy old men or maybe just kids being rude) I still take it as a sign of improvement and it pushes me to go harder lol! I think I had heard some girl say go faster one time and she sounded like it was a snobby remark but to me it meant that I should push and go faster! It helps me cause I think well I am the one out here running in this hot weather sweating my A off while you are in your ac car! Lazy! Hahaha...yeah I might be a little crazy but hey, it gets me through those runs!
And seriously-good job! I really want to do a 5k, haven't since high school.0 -
That my dear teeley is what I call a God sighting. Good for you. Keep up the good work.0

Awesome!!
I know that feeling & it makes you feel really good.
I remember when I was in high school, my junior year. I decided to join the cross country team.
We had a co-ed team except for state races.
I wasn't very good, I didn't know how to pace myself and I jog/walked every 5k.
I remember one race in particular. I was the last one to come in, and as I reached the home stretch
team-mates started cheering me on. It made me sprint to the finish line faster.
I remember one remark by a team-mate, not word for word, but it was something to the effect
how he liked seeing the reaction of how cheering someone on gave them a big boost.
I'll never forget it.0 -
This reminds me of something I saw at the gym one day. There was a very large woman there having a difficult time with the machines and just getting around in general. I that it was great that she was even at they gym! I saw a young, very fit girl walk over to her and say something. The larger woman smiled as the fit one gave her a hug and walked away, she turned back and said "I just had to give you props, you're an inspiration"! That even inspired me to keep going!0

I am still a very large girl at 235lbs still in the obese BMI range...so when I say my fat self, what I mean was reality....I know she was giving me a thumbs up....
Thanks everyone for more encouragement0 -
Good work you!
I remember when I first started working out at Spa Lady some 10 years ago, I was in awe of all the women in great shape.... my trainer told me that alot of them had lost ++ weight and they used to be in the same boat. It's so true, and one day people will be in awe of us and won't know our story either
Here's my thumbs up to you!0 -
I had to laugh when I read your post. The last 5K I did was in a part of our county with a large Amish population. The Amish kids came out to the end of their driveways to watch. It was the Amish man in the buggy giving me a thumbs up that shocked me! :laugh:0

You are my inspiration (you know that!) and my two thumbs are always up for you. I remember how great it felt when the runners acknowledged us and we felt like we were in the club. You are doing awesome and the inner strength you have to push yourself and continue on is amazing! I am inspired and a little jealous of the strength you possess.0
