I have worked my butt off for the last month and lost aout 17 pounds and then this last week I gained about 4 and am so upset! I have only not worked out twice! And almost ALWAYS eat what I am suppose to! I ate some chex mix the other night and the next morning gained! I am just upset!! I mean am I not allowed slip ups without it reflecting on the scale? It sucks because there are some people who can eat whatever they want all the time and don't have to put an ounce of effort into losing weight and naturally just look amazing! I am feeling defeated and I know I need to just get over it and get back on the supid horse but it is hard! This is the hardest thing to do because this isn't something to do and I reach my goal and it ends it is a lifestyle change and sometimes I absouletly hate it!! I just want to enjoy life and go to the gym because it feels good not because I NEED to kill myself to lose weight and only eating the steamed veggies while everyone else has stir fry with crazy amounts of sodium filled sauces. Or eating fruit while my family has ice cream....

Sometimes this just sucks! =(

Defiantly a down day!

i cannot see your diary...but if you are not tracking your sodium you may want to... it is quite possible things like the gain after having the chex mix is a water gain... based on the high sodium in that snack choice *S*
such a gain is usually gone within a day or two so long as you do not overdo the sodium again *S*

did you check the sodium content on the chex mix?
And are you near your TOM?
sound like water weight to me.

I feel your pain sista! But, the point is, working out DOES make you feel good, right? I think you need to be easier on yourself. So you ate some Chex mix and you were higher on the scale. It's really high in sodium too, so it will probably just work itself out throughout the week. Work out because it makes you feel good and strong and healthy, not because you can deduct 500 calories from your food diary - I know that's an added plus, but seriously, just revel in the fact that you have a body that allows you to burn calories. You are so strong. Keep working hard to make this happen for you. Working out is the BEST thing you can do for yourself and not just because it helps you lose weight. Hang in there!! Tomorrow WILL be better. You know what you're doing works - unfortunately, it doesn't work all the time, but in the scheme of things, it's the absolute best thing you can do for yourself.

PS - stop comparing yourself to others. I know, nearly impossible, but it's only going to take you to a bad place. GOOD LUCK!!

I would say it's sodium! Chex Mix along with most other packaged foods are full of sodium. Sodium can make you retain water, I know that if I eat a ton of sodium I can be up 2-5lbs for a few days afterwords. Drink lots of water to help flush it out of your system. You would have to eat 14,000 extra calories to gain 4lbs.

I'm so sorry you are feeling like this. I gained 4 pounds after drinking herbalife for 3 weeks, which I hated, and I was super frustrated..I understand...Anyway...
Congrats on you weight loss for your first month. That is a great accomplishment!
Remember that you weight changes throughout the day, so besides the fact you ate that snack, maybe you jumped on the scale at a different time?
Also, I really doubt the weight you "gained" is fat. It might just be due to some fluid retention due to the increased salt intake. This will go away, and it's a temporary effect due to your recent meal. I know how you feel, but don't give up. You've done an amazing job!!! I treat myself every week, and I personally do not see anything wrong with it. Last Saturday, I had some icecream...
I would recommend that you weigh yourself at most 1 time per week. It's super hard to do, but this will bring down your frustration of seeing how your weight fluctuates between days and hours. (I asked my mom to hide it and give it back every Tue)

    Things to consider:

-You don't gain 4 pounds of fat in one week. You've almost certainly got some water gain happening there (or possibly muscle gain?)

-Someone else mentioned your period. Is it your TOM? Cause we all know that messes stuff up (grr)

-The scale is a fickle friend; it often doesn't reflect what's really happening. More accurate is how your clothes are fitting.

-AND finally, it's a marathon, not a sprint. If you gain 4 pounds this week, but within two weeks are back to where you were, does it really matter in the long run? As long as overall you're moving in the right direction, you're eventually going to get where you want to be. And if you give yourself permission to not be perfect 100% of the time, you'll get where you want to be as a happier person. :) I like to keep the 80/20 perspective; I try to eat right and work out 80% of the time.
