I hurt my back last Wed and have not worked out since then. I've been on some heavy meds to help with the pain.

The scale is starting to creep up and I'm freaking out.

What do you do when you start to see a gain??

TRY TO JUST WALK LEISURELY. THAT'S BETTER THAN DOING NOTHING AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT YOU CAN BURN ALOT OF CALORIES JUST WALKING. I USED TO WALK 6 MILES A DAY AND I LOST 25 POUNDS. I WALKED 3 MILES IN THE MORNING AND 3 IN THE EVENING. THIS WAS BEFORE I JOINED MFP. MY ORIGINAL WEIGHT WAS 275

Sorry to hear about your back problems. They really suck the fun out of life, don't they?

Try to keep moving. I know if hurts but when I herniated a disk in my back a few years ago, it became worse with inactivity. By moving (even slowly) you can keep it from stiffening up and may actual get some blood flow moving thru the area. Healthy Blood flow promotes healing.

As for calories, I would reduce your intake slightly to account for the reduced activity. You don't really want to do anything drastic which would shock the system into "starvation mode".

    Hope you feel better soon!

Drop the intake to 1200, move the most you can, and drink tons of water! Most pain pills have the side effect of water retention and constipation, so up the fiber and water. Google some exercises you can do seated, or some that are back injury friendly.
