I am a very picky eater I try to venture out but not always easy. I eat deccent meals BUT I NEVER HIT MY CALORIE COUNT UNLESS I CHEAT So I'm looking for suggestions.

Example, Mostly eat salmon and veggies for lunch
oatmeal for breakfast
and fish and salad for dinner but it's not that loaded with calories because I bake and steam most of my food

can anyone offer any suggestions.

oh any suggestions on GOOD snacks beyond fruit, veggies, or granola bars

Um.. Thanks BUT I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I'M TIRED OF YOGURT....LOL I was talking to a personal trainer who has helped me in the past and I told her what my recommended calorie count was on here and she suggested that i drop 1/2 of them for the goals that I want. She did if for another client of hers who lost 50 pounds in 3 months. I'll try her way...lol

The question is did the client keep the weight off and for how long? 50 lbs in 3 months sound like too much too fast!

I see her in class and she's still heavy but she has kept it off she said. Biggest loser contestants lose about that much too.

One of my favorite snacks is kind of a copy of a kids lunchable, but a healthier version.
I get TLC Kashi original grain crackers (15 for 120 calories), then I get Hormel all natural oven roasted turkey slices- 3 slices for 50 calories, then I get Cabot cheddar cheese with reduced fat- 1 oz. = 60 calories. Put it all together for a total of 230 calories.

I like Zone bars. I don't know what kind of stuff your into but my favie is the cinnamon roll. They also have lots of chocolate ones (graham, mint, ect) and they even make dark chocolate ones too. The thing I like the most is that they taste like a full fat cereal bar but they are protein bars that are very filling and only 240cal each.

You can try Boca and Morning Star Farms for alternative protein. Their stuff is pretty much taste like the meats you love but is made from soy.

You can check out this forum favorite too.... www.hungry-girl.com .... there are tons of suggestions to cut calories and fat out of the not so good for you things we all struggle with.

Also, I'd be very careful about the amount of calories you allow your body to have. If you're cutting what you're eating in half you might be doing more damage than good. When your body doesn't get the calories it needs, it basically says..."Oh no...time to go into hibernation mode" and it stores all of the calories you do consume instead of allowing you to burn them. Even after that when you do start eating again your body will continue to do this for a while because it is stocking up basically in prevention mode. Do whats best for you, but be careful about "helpful" suggestions. If you're really having problems you might want to see if your physcian can refer you to a dietician, that way your insurance should cover it.

    Good Luck

What about free range chicken? More money, but treated better and no hormones......

OMG...I SO hear ya on that! I get the good stuff... grain fed, free range, no hormone chicken...once you taste that....you never go back!! The flavor is so very different, even the texture. Try some out when it's on sale and see what you think?

I also am creeped out by eggs, milk and beef. I always buy grain fed chicken eggs that have Omega 3 in them and that are cage free/range free. What a difference in taste there as well!! Milk I buy Organtic as well.....yum, milk is finally consistant tasting, you don't get surprised on each carton like you do with regular skim milke. EW!

I try to eat as much natural/organtic as I can but sometimes it's more than I can afford, so I pick the things I eat the most often and buy them organtic. I rarely eat beef so if I do get some sometimes it depends which way I go on that item.

"Smart Chicken" brand is a good one.... it's done in a whole different way.... they have a website on how they process their birds.

  • Lauging cow cheese on anything works for me!! I put it on crackers, apples, berries, etc. Actually another nice one is a small baked potato (like 3 oz) with lo fat cottage cheese and some salsa. mmmmmm
