I finally got myself up to being able to run 7 kms without stopping was very proud of myself for the past couple of weeks. Yesterday donated blood, today couldn't accomplish 2 kms without great pain in my calf muscles, burning and aching, not cramping. Some internet research shows, performance can be greatly affected by blood donation as there is not as much blood taking oxygen to your muscles. Anyone else experience the same thing?? I am glad I researched it, thought I was starting to go backwards! It was very discouraging. I guess the up side is maybe my donation saved someone :)

I've had issues like that just with plasma donation so whole blood must be even harder. Good for you! :flowerforyou: Don't forget to eat lots of iron!

I too have experienced 'sluggishness' after giving blood... I avoid working out for about 24 - 36 hours after each time I donate just to let my body replenish itself...

Also, according to the mayo clinic website, it takes an additional 650 calories for your body to build back it's reserves! What's better than giving the gift of life and getting an additional 650 calories!!!

    It's a win win!! :drinker:

I donate regularly and they always emphysize that I shouldn't do any strenuous activity for 24 hours. I've never tested it, but often feel a little weak the next day. It explains your difficulty. I imagine you'll be back to the old distance in a day or so.
