Body Fat Percentage Believers

Is anyone else totally frustrated with the scale? It's a totally outdated way of measuring your progress. Body Fat measuring is not foolproof but it is certainly a better indicator than pounds lost. If you're on board, share your success in this group!

This is not a challenge, just a support group for people who are sick of being depressed by the scale.

I'm having a moment with this as well...when I got started with this back in April, I bought a new scale that monitors Body Fat%, Water%, Muscle% and Bone Mass as well as weight.

My water and muscle have both moved for the better since I started, but stupid body fat % hasn't changed yet. I'm assuming it's because I'm still 80-85 lbs from where I need to be...but my muscle has gone from 25.3% to 29%. So I'm hoping that the scale is correct!

Also body fat percentage can be useful when you are going for building muscle instead of just losing weight.

If anyone wants a good read on this topic, pick up anything that has Rachel Cosgrove's name on it. She's amazing!

I want in on this for sure. Something else I think should be modified is the whole BMI thingy....any idea how we can replace this with an indicator based on body fat percentage too?

    *giggle* Aw shucks:blushing:

I am thinking about buying a scale that measures Body Fat once I get some money in my pocket (the scale I currently have is 5 years old and supposedly measures BF but it tells me I have anywhere from 51% to 58% Body Fat, which I know can't be right!). Currently I use a combination of measuring tape and BF calipers.

ETA: Here's another interesting chart for BF%, the one I use: http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/library/blbodyfatch

Are you actually creating a group for this? I'd love to join a BF challenge/support group.

I'll do you one better. I find the clothes in my closet to be the best the motivator of all. Getting back into a pair of pants I haven't fit into for a year or two is awesome.

Can anyone recommend calipers or a scale they use to determine bodyfat %?

Yep, this is a Bona Fide BF support group haha. What do y'all think, should we do a challenge together? I personally think I could lose 10% BF by Jan. 1st. If you guys think you're up for a challenge like that I bet that would be a lot of fun

I'm actually gonna get some electric calipers so that I can start measuring body fat. I don't really weigh myself... I go according TI how my clothes are fitting and the muscles that are starting to be more noticeable... This is a great post!

What are all the ways of measuring body fat accurately, and how expensive is it to get what you need to do it? I never started measuring myself, and now that I'm almost at goal, I still don't, but would love to know where I am with fat %, I know last summer 125 lbs looked a whole lot different then 125 -127 does right now.

Very true! I just fit perfectly into a skirt today that I couldn't hardly zip earlier this year. It was great :)

    Go to this address--

    http://lilyslim.com/Fitness_goals_step1.php

And then when you select the style of your ticker and it gets to the "Add details" part put your start, current, and goal Body Fat in and under "Unit," put the % sign
