Unless you are going through a depression or something like that, you could just start and see if motivation appears!
Like appetite come while you eat, you know
Motivation is great, but sometimes commitment is what gets you going!
Get out there and try!!!
Good luck!0 -
I can identify with you some what. I've started and stopped working out many times. I think I stop because an expectation wasn't met. I thought I'd lose weight faster or I expected to lose weight in certain places faster, like my face or my waist. Or just life gets in the way, I get sick, go on vacation, get depressed, etc.
I can't say I've totally been on the other side of where you are, but I do know that this time around, my resolve is different. I think it's the constant mental image of my 20th high school reunion pictures. I REALLY didn't like the way I looked. It helps me stay motivated. I think my expectations and approach are a bit different this time too. Last time I tried to just diet, not exercise. Other times I've tried exercising without the diet, this time I'm doing them both and I look for various ways to exercise to keep it different and not get boring. I've walked a YMCA track, walked around the neighborhood, played soccer with my son, gardened, done Yoga and Cardio classes, walked around a local park, etc. I also get really motivated to exercise knowing that when I log it onto MFP, I can not feel guilty for eating a bit more than I was supposed to for dinner or something.
So, I'd look at maybe adjusting your expectations, and as you said, do various types of exercise so you don't get bored. By-the-way, I admire your ability to limit your TV watching! That's awesome!
Hang in there!0 -

ahh so much can be done during a TV show! Leg lifts, crunches....pushups...some during the show...some on commercials...
If we want it BAD ENOUGH....we can find a way!! I know that might not be what you want to hear...but might be what you NEED to hear.
Life in a day can be utterly exausting...yes, very true....but where is the YOU time?? Perhaps if you have time for TV on 2 nights a week you'd have time one of the other 5 for a excercise video...pop it in and have the kids do it with you (sorry don't know the ages) if they'd hang with you.
Head to the gym for an hour ...that sort of thing...I'm not saying it's EASY...but if we can simply make a change in our routine......we all have spare bits of time in our day that we almost don't notice! Pushups against the wall in the womans restroom during break at work, a nice walk on your lunch break.....up and down the stairs during a break.... anything that gets your body moving and gets that energy back into you....it will help with feeling less exausted at the end of the day!
I think once your body gets back in the routine it will CRAVE the excercise again. The energy you gain back in excercising will amaze you and help you to make it through those days....the sleep will become better....excercise....it adds much to our lives for the little time it can take to move our bodies...
Jenny put it well, sometimes you just have to DO it....and the motivation will follow:flowerforyou:0 -
I too can relate to what you are saying. I'm a single mom, with 3 teenagers and work nights. I'm fighting a bout of depression right now and finding the motivation to work out can be tricky at times. I just started working out again because I needed to change myself from the inside out. To help me along the way I purchased a few items. There are days when I'm so exhausted that I don't feel like doing anything. On days were I feel like that I jump on my treadclimber put on a show I like and just start walking. Eventhough I'm burnt out from the day, I keep telling myself that if I can make it to 15 minutes I will feel better and when I get to 15 I tell myself another 15 and I will sleep better. Like Jenny said sometimes you just have to do it and everything else will follow. Don't be too hard on yourself because we all go through this at one point or another the important thing is to not give up. I'm 40 years old and recently had to remind myself that if I don't change how I look and feel, no else will do it for me. Besides, I don't have the money for plastic surgery so I have to do it the long and hard way. :  Don't give up because tomorrow is another day. :flowerforyou:0

I find that the more tired I am, the more I know I need to work out. I work out in the evenings as well because I know that as soon as I am done working out, I will get a surge of energy.
I have 3 small children and the deal is that after dinner, my husband plays with them and baths them while I do my exercise. If I don't exercise then I have to clean the kitchen by myself!

i'm totally with you...same thing with me...scary, i used to workout all the time, actually competed in bodybuilding. i still play soccer but am injured so doing nothing. but always so tired between work and family. it's not easy but it's so important to get out there even if it's for 10 mins.
get started and eventually things will become easier and you'll start feeling good which means you'll take more time for yourself. Hey! maybe I'll try that too...
OK let's get off this computer and go for a quick walk...
i am picking my son up from soccer but i'll go a little earlier and walk around the track until he's done.
I guess trying to find what works for you is something you'll need to figure out (the same goes for me)but remember exercise brings out the "good feeling" hormone so take sometime to get whatever you can in...you won't regret it and i'm sure your family will be happier if they see you happy.0
