Watch what you eat, not enough calories.

Here I think that I had a good eating day, I ate at every meal and they say that I'm not consuming enough calories? It pisses me off cause I know I need to totally cut back because I just don't have the time to fit in exercise. Sure I walk every day but that's not going to make the pounds drop off. I really, really, really hate this. I would give anything to be back at the size I was a month after I had my daughter!

Yes. I know your frustration. I do not have a child but I know the feeling of wanting to be a size that I was before. However, you may want to start working with the idea that, if this is your first child, your body has changed a lot in order to carry the child to term and then birth her. Also, you could try focusing on being and feeling healthy as opposed to being a certain size. I too am guilty of wanting to be a certain size and not focusing on health. Also, remember that if you are eating too few calories (less than 1200-1300 a day) your body goes into starvation mode and holds on to every calorie it can because it thinks it must prepare for a famine. Good luck! Try to stay positive and know that I feel for you. I too experience a similar frustration.
  • They are telling me the same thing.................that if I don't eat more my body will stop letting go of the fat.............so I ate 1200 cal today. I don't know if it is true or not but I did increase up from 900-1000 cal.:grumble:

I have started eating my calories every day and slightly over (like ten or so) and after being stuck at one weight for months, I finely started losing again. It makes no sense to me, but it works.

  • Thanks, I've never really paid close attention to what I ate before, I just ate whatever I wanted, when I wanted, and never had a problem. I've been on a medication that has a side effect of weight gain so I've recently gained 40 pounds. This has really put me through a loop. I'm so shocked by how I look now, not to mention how many dress sizes I went up. It is really depressing. I've got to change my eating habits that have never been a problem for me before. I weigh 20lbs more now than when I was 9 months pregnant. I'm scared that I wont be able to do it!

whoa 900-1000 calories is much to low for anyone!! The lowest a person would ever want to eat is 1200 calories unless adviised by their doctor.

Have you read some of the 'eat your excercise' threads for new folks yet?? Great info in those articles...will certainly explain the whys of eating all your calories plus excercise ones as well!

It's not just a matter of not eating enough slowing and/or stopping your weight loss, it's a matter of your body literally STARVING to death. That is why it WILL SLOW YOUR WEIGHT LOSS.

If you will please go to the general discussion forum and read all the posts there that have been pinned, you might gain a better understanding.

It is simply a matter of giving your body enough to function--if you have no problem with starvation, with your body cannabalizing itself to continue to function, with loss of muscle, with hair falling out, etc. etc. etc. then by all means, eat as little as you want. HOWEVER, if you wish to lose weight in a healthy manner and keep your body functioning as it should, then you should be eating at least 1200 calories.

However, FOR MOST PEOPLE EVEN 1200 IS TOO LITTLE! 1200 is not the "default"on here that everyone thinks it is. 1200 is a severe deficit that should be only for those with alot to lose (I"m talking over 100 pounds) and who are under a doctor's care. For the rest, you are probably needing at least 1400-1500 a day to function as a healthy human.

1200 is what MFP WILL DEFAULT TO IF YOU PICK "Lose 2 pounds a week." FOR MOST PEOPLE, LOSING 2 POUNDS A WEEK IS NOT HEALTHY! For most, a more healthy goal is 1/2 to 1 pound a week, period.

In addition, you must eat back your exercise calories.

Have you heard the term, "You have to want it bad enough?" When it comes to losing weight, "You have to hate it bad enough." Or it will never go away...

Give yourself a 30 day challenge, if you aren't game enough for that give yourself 14 days to try it this way. Eat your way up to 1200 but not over calories per day. Do a workout even if it is only jogging in place in front of the TV during each commercial over your favorite TV show. Use a kitchen timer and set it for 20 minutes. When a commercial comes on, start the clock and start jogging. TV show on, stop clock and sit. Next commercial, start clock again and start jogging. Honestly, this is a simple step you can do to change your life. Pretty soon you will be thinking, "Man! I can run outside for ten minutes instead!" And if you want it...You'll do it. Every mile will be a few more bits burned off.

    I dare ya!

    Good luck! :flowerforyou:
