I really am glad I don't have a "regular" job. Getting up every day at this hour would kill me - my body is still asleep, I think. One really shouldn't have to get up before the sun rises.
Exercise: yesterday 1 hour elliptical (just over 500 calories ) and yoga. Today is a long bike ride - maybe 2 hours or so, tomorrow: rest.
So my dietician said no more counting calories. She said that, as much as I exercise, my caveman body thinks I'm the mighty hunter and must conserve every calorie I give it (since I was only giving it about 2000 a day). I am to be very aware of when I am eating and why. I am to learn when the perfect 7 of fullness is achieved - on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being eat your own arm hungry and 10 painfully full - eat when you reach a 3 (ready to eat hungry) of hunger and stop when you reach a 7 - you will not be hungry for 3-4 hours.
Here is a website with a few different ones on it
http://intuitive-eating.blogspot.com/2007/02/different-hunger-scales.html
the one my dietician gave me is here, click on the basic hunger/satiety scale:
http://www.nourishingconnections.com/stay_attuned_tools.htm
I'm also not supposed to count exercise calories - but right now it's the only way I know how hard I worked. But she said baby steps are ok and if I feel the need to count any calories that's ok. She stressed gentle approaches to changing your diet/attitude. Also, I need to eat one meal a week mindfully - as mindful as possible. This means a meal could take up to an hour to eat.
I will go see her again in a month.
So, Happy Workouts all!

One more thing I have to add in the novel today - I think tv watching is bad for your weight - and not because you are sitting around. I was watching tv at the gym and noticing all the commercials for crap food. I don't think it was any coincidence that it was during a morning talk show with a woman trying to lose weight. The talk show ticked me off as well. The husband wanted his trophy wife back, who had gain quite a bit of weight, but he was working on a few spare tires himself! Just he hypocrisy of it all made me very angry - only women need to look good. :explode:0

Mary, I agree. No one should have to get up before the sun does! All that stuff you said is interesting. I'm going to have to look into it.
Yesterday, I said I was going to start counting calories again. I didn't. I may log my food over the next few days to see how I am doing but I am going to try a different approach. It's the way I should be eating anyway. I am going to try to keep the foods as natural and basic as I know how. This requires more time in the kitchen, which I hate, but I don't want to keep getting processed foods just because I don't feel like cooking. I am going to try to cook all my meals on two days. Friday (may end up being Saturday morning) and Monday or Tuesday. And then eat off those meals the following days. I've done this before and it worked but it was hard to stick to. I plan to try this until Sunday. Friday night will be an exception because we are going to eat at my cousin's house. I will just have to be careful. And Sunday at lunch may be hard because we usually eat out after church. I am going to give it a try. This is something some of you have been doing all along and is easy for you. Food is not easy for me.
Yesterday, I did 45 minutes of taebo with my 2 pound hand weights. I am so sore this morning, but it feels good! It means I worked out hard! Today is grocery shopping day, so that may be my only output.
Goals:
finish healthy grocery list
go shopping, put blinders on
drink lots of water!
eat healthy, more natural foods
Have a blessed day!

I think my missing ingredient is beginning to prepare to eat when I'm around a 3 or a 4. I always wait too long to eat, am starving, grab whatever's handy and eat too much. Also, I'm having big trouble not eating in front of the TV. I've created a compromise where I portion control, but I'm still going to try to quit it entirely.
I think my next thing is to make sure I have food I want to eat in the house. Have you done the thing the book suggests where you find out what you actually like to eat, Mary? I've discovered there are only about 8-10 things I really enjoy eating, and one of them is pizza. (one of them is croissants.) So, I'm having a little trouble waiting for the "don't worry. . .the nutrition part will balance out."
Fast food commercials are the reason I got a DVR. It's easier up here, where I'd have to walk a mile to the closest McDonalds, but back in Ohio. . .I'd see a commercial, get in my car and literally go eat whatever they'd shown me. I pondered writing a letter to Oprah and saying "you really shouldn't let these people sponsor you." My pet peeve is when the supermodel is eating a cheeseburger. . .and I'm wondering about how many of those bites she spit out between takes. I wonder if we'll ever get to the point where they go the way of cigarette commercials. . .
I find I don't miss counting, and for the most part feel in control still. (that was my big fear, that I'd "Lose control") I am still logging my exercise, which I enjoy seeing on a graph.
Speaking of exercise,
today is spinning, push-ups (I started back at week one on Tuesday during Biggest Loser commercials)
water, vits, and iron. . . .mmmmmm. . .iron. (I understand it takes several weeks for the iron to get into my system. . .so I'm looking forward to an eventual energy boost.)
Take care of yourselves today, ladies (and everybody who reads us).:flowerforyou:0 -
yeah I only work 3 days a week! Today is my day off! yay!! Ive decided to start counting again. I wasnt going to and I wasnt really going to come to the site anymore... Ive changed my goals to 170lbs instead of 145. Thats only about 20lbs away. That motivates me and makes me think "Its only 20 lbs away!!".
I was gonna quit with all this because I figured whats the point? When I hit my goal I dont think I could maintain... But I told myself I will do this until I make it and while doing so learn to control myself (Like i should have been doing) and then learn how to maintain. These things take time. Plus I dont like the way my body is feeling with all this junk!!
Starting today I am back! haha I should have been a long time ago0 -
My oh my is it cold riding a bike into the wind when it's 60 degrees. I had to take a food break, so here I am. Food break was 1/3 scone and some dried fruit with nuts. I'm waiting for it to kick in.
V - I think I like a lot of foods. I enjoy each of them for what they are. I may not have the same, better than sex reaction to chocolate cake as I do to roasted asparagus, but it's just a "different" taste. I've never restricted certain foods (ok, meat, but that's for different reasons), so I don't have the "bad" food "good" food thing going on in my brain, so maybe that's why I like more things. Pizza is on my list, but it's behind lasagna. I wonder how you can enjoy pizza or croissants with the gluten intolerance? You may enjoy eating them, but do you enjoy having eaten them (food guilt aside)? I think that's where they want you to go. How do you feel after having a pain du chocolat as opposed to an apple? What is your body saying?
Also - My dietician said it was ok to have chocolate cake for lunch! She said some people have weeks and weeks just learning what they liked to eat and had big pasta coma blowouts or an entire week of eating cake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.0 -

I got my two hours of shopping done. I thought it was going to be a bad trip because Alex was whining before we even got to the store. But he straightened up. I took a snack along but didn't eat it. I should have. By the time we got home I was starving (a big fat 0 on the scale!). I was tempted to go pick something up but I had already gone over the budget in my spending and I really want to try to do better. I came home and made a salad and then I had a corn tortilla with margarine because I was coveting the one I had made for Alex. I still felt hungry, or so I thought, but I was probably almost a 3 on the scale. Did I stop eating? No. I got dried cranberries, few nuts, and chocolate chips and made my own trail mix. It wasn't too bad. Thankfully that was the last of the chips! I will probably be full until 4 now. I know I shouldn't have had the trail mix. So that's what happens to me when I let myself get too hungry.0 -

I feel fine as long as I stick to whole wheat, I've discovered. Which means whole wheat pizza crust, in moderation, is OK for my body. Croissants, not so much. Although, man do I enjoy them on the way in. My symptoms are not severe, and my naturopath seems to think that what I need to worry about is eating wheat a bunch of times in a row (like every meal for 2-3 days) I find that a few times a week, and making sure I vary my grains, is important. I've been trying to pay attention after I eat, and after I exercise and concentrate on how eating/exercising make me feel, versus "how many calories did I just eat/burn off?" Also, I'm very curious to see if my cravings change once the anemia is under control.
Yes, I've pretty much been in the "pasta coma blowout" stage. But, I've had my first few "I want a vegetable!" moments, so that's positive. But, yep. . .for me it was pumpkin pie for lunch. What I haven't done. . .or even had the urge to do. . .is eat to excess. This is the most crucial progress for me.0 -
And now, for no apparent reason. . .
some photos of upside down doggies.
I find them hilarious, and can't stop going to this site:

Bwahahaha! Thanks for the link, Viv.
Interesting stuff, Mary. It's funny how if I actually allowed myself to eat cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I probably wouldn't really feel like I wanted it as much. I am in the same boat as you guys if I let myself get too hungry - bad news. I had another intuitive-eating-related victory today, though... my group took my boss out to eat at Red Robin (a burger place with 'bottomless fries' :noway: ) because it was Boss' Day. I ate an apple about 30 minutes before we left. I asked if I could get something besides fries and they said broccoli - OK. So I got a '5 alarm burger' (pepper jack, jalapenos, salsa, chipotle mayo) with a Boca patty and the "broccoli". It turned out the "broccoli" was a huge bowl of steamed veggies - broccoli, mushrooms, onions, red peppers, and a bit of oil. Yum!! I ate all the veggies, and started my burger. Pretty good (even though they didn't put the mayo on the side like I asked)! But then I put it down about halfway through, and realized I was satisfied. So I took the rest home. How awesome is that? I am really proud of myself.
And I'm in an even better mood because I went to Zumba tonight and it was lots of fun. I can't get all the moves perfectly, but I saw myself in the mirror and I didn't look half bad!
Nice to meet you, Karen! And Mary, I will definitely drop you a line when I'll be in town. :flowerforyou:0
