I have just found out i have a posterior bulging disc in my back at L5 - S1 and i have been told to strengthen my back,abs and core so my gym program had to be changed around a bit which means some cardio has been taken out.

This is my new program as of yesterday;

Cross Trainer: Time 16-20mins Level: Intervals of 6-8-10-12, 6-8-10-12 changing levels every 60 seconds

Bosu Push ups: 3 sets of 15

Fitball crunch: 3 sets of 10

Fitball rollouts (on toes): 2-3 sets of 10

Leg raises: 2 sets of 12

Alternating superman: 2 sets, 10 on each side

Treadmill: Time: 10 mins Level: Intervals of level 6 and 10. (level 6 for 60 seconds, level 10 for 60 seconds and so on...)

I will be doing this program at least 3 times a week and doing an hour boxing class weekly also, Im worried this isnt enough to lose weight... what are your thoughts?

  • Hi Sami,
    That should be enough cardio. Most say 20 minutes of intense cardio is good. If you're changing the resistance every two minutes or so, you should have a good burn for up to an hour after your workout. It also helps to do cardio on an empty stomach and have a protein shake or high protein meal an hour afterwards. Good luck with your back - that can be painful!
