New thought...

So I have been struggling lately. Yesterday I left an appointment where I spent a lot of time discussing my weight and drove right to a store to buy lunch. Somehow I ended up with a donut, ate it in the car, and had powdered sugar evidence all over me! Ugh! Lets just say the rest of the day didn't get any better...
I know myself well enough to know that I have a very hard time controlling what I eat during PMS. So I am forgiving myself for the bad day and am back on track today. I upped my calories a little bit so I am eatting closer to my BMR. I am planning to log every day for the next three weeks and try to stay within my calories every day. I also am aiming for 5 times a week at the gym. So far I have been twice this week. I am excited about my new plan and think that it might be a step in the right direction for me.
I have always thought of losing weight as a direct path from point A to point B. You do what you know you should and you lose the weight. You don't and then you don't lose! But now I am thinking that path is not a straight line. Sometimes I am gonna see a pretty flower on the side of my path and wander off a bit :flowerforyou: hehe. The important part is that I keep going in the right direction and don't get completely lost in the woods! It helps me to know that getting off course is just a part of the journey and if I can work on improving my map, maybe I will wander a little less in the future.
I am so loving this analogy right now, lol!

yep-- I'm there with you DJ-- I see the analogy. I think you're right-- we detour now and then on our path. Stop and smell the flowers, as you say. Take the bypass occasionally, Yield now and then to temptation. As long as we don't do a complete U-turn, we're in good shape. :bigsmile:0

I found the more I limited myself the less I wanted to do it. Why not strive to start out for three times a week at the gym, so It doesn't fill all your extra time, once you get into that habit and actually start enjoying it, up it to four, etc. Five times a week, you are going to get discouraged if you don't make it there every day and resent that that it is taking up so much of your time, and getting little result. Our brains are self defeating, if we do what we think will work and it doesn't, we tend to allow ourselves to beleive it is never going to work and we quit. Our expectations starting out are often very high. Do one goal at a time and allow yourself to adapt to the new stuff before adding something else. Unfortuantely we can't change habits overnight that took us (or me) 40 years to learn, and we need to teach ourselves not to expect transformation in a week That has always been my downfall, I worked hard for a week, then got on the scales only to be disaapointed and disillusioned, and would give up. I my mind one whole week of restricting what I could eat and exercising faithfully was extremely sacrificing so why wasn't the scales showing all my hard work. I had to train my brain to look at it differently and to make changes gradually so that my brain did not go into shock. Address food the same way. Reduce your calories but don't restrict them to the point you would eat your right arm if someone put bbq sauce on it. Sorry I kind of rambled, but this is the thought pattern that finally got me past having to be perfect yesterday.0
