Hello all, well the fish I have tried in the past... just didnt really make me like fish! Till I tried some this weekend at my shore house... I loved it. I want to try and incorporate more fish into my diet.

Does anyone have any recipes that are low sodium, low fat, and low carb - ish?

Thank you so much everyone && I hope you all had a great holiday weekend!

How was the fish prepared on the weekend?
  • This recipe is really good. I've had a few friends who don't like fish try it & love it!. I hope this helps you out :-)

    Fish Tacos

Prep: 20 min start- to finish Makes: 4 servings

    Ingredients:
1 lb medium- firm skinless white fish fillets (cod, orange roughy, red snapper, etc.)
    2 tbs melted butter/ margarine
    ¼ tps ground cumin
    ¼ tsp paprika
    ¼ tsp chilli powder
    ½ tsp garlic powder
    3 tbs light mayonnaise
    1 ½ limes
    ¼ cup cilantro, chopped
    8 corn taco shells
    1 recipe mango salsa
    Method:
    1. Rinse fish & pat dry (thaw fish if frozen) with paper towels. Cut fish into ¾” slices. Put into a sealable container add cumin, paprika, chilli powder, garlic powder, the zest & juice from one lime. Mix well and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
    2. Mix the melted butter in with the fish and arrange in a single layer on a greased shallow baking pan. Bake at 450 degrees for 4-6 minutes or until fish is cooked through & flakes easily with a fork.
    3. Meanwhile, in a small bowl mix together the juice from the other ½ lime, mayonnaise & cilantro, spread the mixture inside the taco shells. Top with lettuce the fish & mango salsa.

    Mango Salsa

Prep: 5-10 min Makes: 2 cups

    Ingredients:
1 ½ cups peeled, chopped mangoes
1 medium sweet red pepper, seeded and finely chopped
1 jalapeño pepper, seeded & finely chopped
¼ cup thinly sliced green onion or chives
    1 tbs olive oil
    1 tbs vinegar
    1 tbs lime juice
½ tsp thinly grated lime peel
    ¼ tsp salt
    ¼ tsp pepper
    Method:
    1. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl.

If you have an android phone there is a great free app called Allrecipes. You can input the ingredients you have and spin. It is fun and you might be able to find something customized to your likes.

I love fish!! It's so healthy (lean and lots of good fat and protein) and so fast to make. I usually just season the fillets and bake for 25-30 min.

Well I am not a big fish person (Except for deep fried catfish...mmmmmm) and have never liked Salmon. But I have been reading alot lately about fish and Salmon seemed ot be a very healthy one so I looked for recipes. The one I used was taking a Salmon fillet and cutting it to the appropriate size. (I used 4 oz). I lay it skin side down on a baking sheet (That was coated with a little EVOO). I sprinkled some paprika, pepper, dash of garlic and Lemon Pepper (Which I normally do NOT like) and cooked it till it was done. It was amazing. Even my son loved it and he hates anything but a tuna fish sandwich. This week I will try it grilled,

I love tilapia and you can do so much with it. You can season it with pretty much anything. Two seasonings I love to use on it are citrus basil and chili lime. They are both pampered chef seasonings but I am sure you can find similar ones in the store. With the chili lime I also put a avocado tomato salsa on top. The salsa is just chopped tomato, avocado, lime or lemon juice, salt, pepper, garlic salt or what ever else you want to do to it. You can add onion, cilantro or whatever you like in your salsa.

Tilapia is my favorite fish. Well, that and salmon but I could live on tilapia. I don't do much to it at all. I slice a lemon and put two pieces of lemon on foil and put tilapia on top that way i don't have to use butter or oil, I'll throw some spices on it (sometimes) just a pinch of salt and cook.

I'll either eat it just like that or i'll shred it and make a fish taco kind of thing.

i always tend to separate the fish by weight (individual portions) into tin foil. Season them with whatever you like. i love a lil oyster sauce, pepper, garlic, slice of onion, small pat of butter, thyme...

Make sure you spray the foil with some Pam or other cooking spray.

Pop them into the oven... 350F for like 15 minutes.

    yummaay

If not in the oven, i'll cut those same seasonings in a pot and create a lil stock, drop the fish in it and let it steam the fish for 15 minutes or so.

I enjoy Old Bay on fish as well. But keep in mind it has 160 mg of sodium per ONE-QUARTER teaspoon! That can add up in a hurry and cause some serious bloat! :(

Try grilling on a grilling plank. You soak it in water overnight and then grill. Lightly seasoned fish, any kind of fish, is wonderful on a grilling plank.

thank you! i didnt even think to look at sodium content in old bay!

i try to stick away from it because it makes me puffy!

does soaking it get rid of the "fishy" "ocean-like" taste lol?
