food sensitivities since changing? am I the only one?

Fair warning - TMI, haha!

Since I've started my change, I've noticed I'm now hyper sensitive to several things that never affected me. Some of them, like salt, make sense because I'm watching it, but I'm finding myself being affected by my fiber intake as well as caffeine. Caffeine never used to affect me, and now I'm jittery and anxious, and too much caffeine makes it hard to go to the bathroom. It seems like now my fiber intake has to be below a certain amount, and if I'm under or over that amount, there's issues. I think my food diary is open, but please ignore yesterday's cookout incident (nothing says "I'm an American!" like overeating to the point of puking and blowing stuff up, right?)

I hope I'm not the only one who has noticed sensitivities. If you have and were able to get over them, what did you do? I've been at this for 6 months, and just started noticing issues within the last 2 months.

I hate some packaged lunch meat a few weeks ago. My hands and feet swelled up from it. The only thing i can think of is the sodium or the sodium nitrite in the food.

I totally hear you on the caffeine! I can't have it at ALL anymore. It makes me jittery too, and makes my limbs feel all jelly-like and weird. I hate it!

I can't eat deep-fried foods anymore - in terms of TMI, it keeps me up all night with stomach cramps and violent illness....I was in denial for many months, but have come to accept that I cannot eat KFC or fish and chips from a restaurant anymore .... guess that's a good thing anyways ;-)

I couldn't, for the longest time, figure out why I was so (for lack of a more discreet way to put it) constipated when I was eating so healthy but I joined MFP in may and realized I was usually tripling my daily recommended intake on fiber and was getting bound up for days at a time. I still eat just as much fiber but am very careful to take in PLENTY of water.....usually at least 10 8oz glasses a day. Now, caffeine works opposite on me. It makes me go to the bathroom.

Eating lots of sugar tips my intestines upside down, and I cant be very far from the bathroom for about a day or so...

I also cant eat fatty things, or I get the same side effect...

Its really really wierd, but now my body is a big baby and cant handle fat or sugar...

I dont' even want to attempt to eat at a fast food restaurant I am afraid I wouldn't make it home. lol

oh yeah !!! me too..i used to be able to eat like a cup of green olives at a time, like in salads and stuff, and i had a weekness 2 nights ago, where i ate 12 or 15 of them, and drank some juice as well, and my body didn't like it, so i had to throw up from eating 1/4 of what i used to be able to..it's mainly sodium filled foods, but you are not the only one..i do however find myself craving new foods i would never have wanted to try before, but unfortunaltely, those foods are too high in everything as well

    This.

My weekend (and Monday) were pretty careless, and I suffered every day because of it. Fast food tore me up on Saturday, and then an ice cream sundae and a hot dog sent me over the edge yesterday - SERIOUSLY painful and multiple trips to the bathroom! SORRY for the TMI, lol! But I absolutely can't handle fatty, greasy, high-sodium, or sugary foods anymore. Caffine hasn't been an issue, but has never really affected me. Fiber is a constant issue, either I'm not getting enough or I'm eating too much! It's been really difficult to find a good balance, and then sticking with that balance is a whole 'nother issue :grumble:

First, I want to tell you that I have absolutely had food sensitivity to some things, like dairy products.

Second, I want to tell you that most food sensitivities are trying to tell you something.

Take, for instance, my sensitivity to dairy (I just threw up for 30 minutes at 2:30am because I ate some vanilla ice cream). The human body isn't really mean to ingest dairy in the first place, so when I cut it mostly out of my diet and only use milk and cheese sparingly now, my body has had time to realize that I'm not supposed to have dairy.

As far as your sensitivity to caffeine, I'd say that your body is telling you the same thing that dairy tells me.

That being said, you shouldn't completely eliminate things from your diet, but be smart about it. With caffeinated beverages, drink HALF what you'd normally drink and see how you fare. If you have a can of coke, pour half down the drain or have someone share it with you. I have found that that method is incredibly helpful. I've had sensitivity to caffeine as well and can tell you that unless you strike a balance with yourself, you won't find peace. No drinking 5 cans of coke at a barbecue after being dry for three weeks. That just won't do you any good.

    On to fiber.

A LOT of your fiber is coming from processed foods. For example, today you're having 21 grams of fiber and only 8 (or about 1/3) of your fiber is coming from vegetables and the rest from processed sources. The problem is that you need to strike a balance. There are two different kinds of fiber: insoluble and soluble. http://www.webmd.com/diet/fiber-health-benefits-11/insoluble-soluble-fiber

So take a look at how much of what kinds of fiber you're eating. And that will probably help you figure out how and where to balance that. And try really hard to make sure that most of your fiber is coming from natural, unprocessed foods. Or as unprocessed as possible.

    Hope that helps.

With the fiber, that's the issue I get. I'm only a few grams over and I feel bloated for a week, but even if I'm under, same issue. Frustrating!
