I sprained my ankle which sucks I was up to being able to do around 700 calories per hour work out before that. I saw my trainer and she did come up with exercises I should be able to do without hurting my self, but since they are lower impact they burn less calories. It is really frustrating, but I guess I gotta push through. I am focusing on my upper body more which I have a bad habit of leaving out, so that is probably good. The key will be to not fall out of the habit.

aw, man, I know your pain!!! I have really bad knee issues, and whenever they act up, I'm always having to push something aside to let it heal, which could take up to a week. I hate it!!!

The best thing that I can do for myself in that time period is to watch my calories. And also, I mentally splurge, too. Sounds crazy, I know. But one or two times a week, I go to mcdonalds or wendy's and get a grilled chicken salad. That way, I can still treat myself, yet, I'm staying within my limits. For some reason, doing little things like that can help take my mind off of my setbacks, which are always minor, and never last, because I always come back raring to go and do more.

Just take it easy for a bit, let your body do its thing, and don't fret!!! :)

    Good luck!

I know exactly what you're going through. In January, I was thisclose to running a 10 min mile. Then I fell on the ice. Ended up being diagnosed with a bulging disc in my lower spine. Pain. Numbness in my legs. Etc. It was awful. I went from going to the gym all the time to not being able to go at all. It is tough.

Take it easy. Let your body heal properly - you'll be grateful later that you did it right.
  • At the risk of sounding sappy...this may be a silver lining. Consider swimming. The water will take the weight off your ankle, and you might really like it. Not a good swimmer? Use a paddle board. My old gym (in Gresham Oregon), actually had a swim instructor that did water personal training. And, it burns calories like running.
PS Don't want to be seen in a bathing suit? Buy a new suit and get a rash guard to wear over it. I like Lands End.
    Good Luck!

I would love to swim, but my gym does not have a pool and there are not really any community pools by me, I live in NYC. Stationary Bike, the sit-back kind plus sit-ups, pull-ups. and chest-press is the recipe.

plus one for swimming!! my husband wants to exercise more but doesn't strictly want to do cardio machines because he's on his feet all day at work, and it's great exercise without the impact.

what about punching, tae bo style? i use it in my intervals when i want to get my heart rate up and you don't have to involve your lower body.
