Just one more day getting up this early.
I was cold all day yesterday - that was nice and different. Today is the 30 minute walk. I was too tired to clean the house yesterday (can't imagine when I double that amount of ride tomorrow!), so that's on the list today.
My 66 year-old father is doing the 40 mile ride as well - we won't keep up with him though, he's on a road bike. Kinda funny actually - he hasn't ridden his bike at all to train, only elliptical. Should be interesting. He has the endurance though - he works out 3 hours a day (now you know where I get it from, my whole family is like that, I'm actually the lazy one). We also have a friend doing the 25 mile and my husband keeps hinting, outright saying, he would rather do that. I told him that was too easy and that's not what I've been training for.
Happy workouts all!

Mary, I bet you will be glad to sleep in again. Your dad is 66 and is in bike rides? Wow! That's great! I wish my family had been more active. My sister and I are the most active ones, which really isn't saying a whole lot. Both sides of the family have weight issues.
I have Bible Study this morning so no work out this morning, except push ups if I can bear them! I am still really sore from Wednesday! I am trying to decide what to do this afternoon. I was thinking about cleaning the carpets, but I've lost motivation. :grumble: My hubby discouraged me by telling me how hard it is etc. It needs to be done though.(Plus my cat and boy aren't suppose to get on the carpets for about 24 hours after cleaning them which seems impossible.) I also need to mow. Yuck. I have also thought about doing Taebo glutes today because my upper body is so sore.
I have also been SO hungry the last 24 hours! Maybe it's just that time of the month. Yesterday morning I felt sick because I needed to eat. This morning my stomach is saying HELLO!!!! Maybe I'm not eating enough? I'm not counting right now. I did eat light foods yesterday, but I didn't starve myself.
Today:
drink water
do something this afternoon!
push ups (if tolerated)
eat well (except tonight is Chinese. I'll have to be careful!)
I hope you all have a good day!

You guys posted appropriately yesterday! I had a -5 day by dinner. Essentially, I had "eaten my arm and my stomach was still growling" hungry. I ate an entire cinnamon stick pizza and three slices of pepperoni pizza for dinner. NOT GOOD And now today, I'm not hungry at all. O.k. so maybe nearing a 5 after my workout this morning, but not mentally obsessing like yesterday.
Melissa, how do you do the push-ups? I am physically VERY strong and can't do push-ups to save my life. At my best, doing gymnastics, running, swimming, etc I could only do 30 on my toes. Now I'm lucky if I don't bite it doing 15 on my knees. I've just never been able to do them. What gives? :frown:
This morning was my third session with the trainer/coach. Not too bad, but I know I'll be sore this weekend. I did 5 days of exercise this week, but not very intense other than the three sessions. Just a blahhhhh week. The cold front is moving through the mountains tody and dropping us from highs near 70 yesterday to lows in the 30s tonight. Brrr, late fall is here! Even mention of the evil S-word (freezing temps and moisture not a good mix in October)
Well, on the road tomorrow, so I won't get here. Have a great weekend of riding, painting, gardening, mowing, playing with kids (4-legged kind included)! :happy:0 -
Morning!
So, today is an errand running walk and bikram tonight.
I haven't been making it to bikram lately, and I'm financially motivated to go. Also, I've been feeling pretty stiff, and know that the heat helps. Also, I've already taken my authorized day off this week, so I'm committed to doing something every day until Sunday.
So, today is:
water
vits + iron
bikram
eating small things often, so as to not get crazy hungry.
not eating in front of the TV. Seriously. At all.
Take care of yourselves!:flowerforyou:0 -
Hello all! I am still in a pretty good mood today. We are going to Massachusetts for the weekend to visit some in-laws and friends, so I am taking the afternoon off from work. :glasses: Hubby has been VERY stressed at work lately, so I am hoping he is able to get away and just relax (and not be too stressed out from being around his family ) for a bit. So I will be heading home, getting packed, doing my pushups, and working on my project until he's ready to leave.
Melissa - you are doing great on the pushups. It sounds like maybe you should eat a little bit more, though - I upped my calories a while back, and even though I plateaued for 5 weeks, I finally started losing again. I'm not logging religiously at the moment, though.
Arianne, MM and I have been working on the program from hundredpushups.com (and Vivia has just joined up as well). I went from only being able to do 1 regular pushup to now being able to do around 40 (I managed 45 on Wednesday, but I wasn't going as deep). You do multiple sets 3x/week, ending with an exhaustion set where you do as many as possible. I am not progressing nearly as fast as the program would have me go, but I AM doing more than I ever thought I could. We have a thread going if you want to join us! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/26816-hundred-push-ups-october
Have a great weekend, all, and good luck on your ride, Mary! What an accomplishment.0 -
AD, I think everyone can do different things - which I'm sure you are aware of.
I can do push-ups, though not as many as Melissa, but can't do sit-ups. I can overhead press quite a bit of weight but can't do lateral raises that well. Flexibility is like that too. This is why I'm not a big fan of the fitness tests (though I do which ever one comes out:blushing: ). Most have a "sit and reach" test for flexibility - women, for the most part, have an advantage here, they have "longer" hamstrings. Men have more open hips (for the most part). (To get both, you would have to bend one leg, put the bent leg foot on the other thigh and then reach forward.) About half the tests have a sit-up strength test, the other half have a push-up one - so I might score 80th percentile in the push-up one, but 20th in the sit-up.
Another thing that gets me is the "run" test. I hate to run, always have. Walk on incline, elliptical, bike, I'm ok, but do a run test and I will fail. One of my book club members (the one that does the Ironman!) says that everyone should be able to run 3 miles. I was soap boxing her. What makes running more important than flexibility? Why running (though it's simplicity makes the tests easy)? Why not swimming or walking on an incline or the "step" test?
Ok, enough soap box.0 -
Almost lunch time!! I am slowly getting back on track. Instead of keeping with in my cals (I still aim for 1400) I am just trying to eat less now. That has to be something I need to do for the rest of my life as well as only eat when Im hungry. I want to learn to eat slow too. I eat fast, too fast. about 25lbs to go then 170. From there I will decide where I am going next. I just finished cleaning my house and later on today will be doing groceries.0

I know, just some self-abusing talk. I can go run 10 miles right now, but put me on a stepper and I'll collapse in 10 minutes. I can do ab work till I puke and am gumby, but have no upper body strength in some areas. I can bench press a lot of weight (max over 100lbs) and yet can't do pushups?!?!?! I might try to challenge, but need to recover from this weeks training sessions first! :laugh:0

I've been focusing on pushups and running particularly because they are hard for me. I hate to run. But running challenges (read: wears me out!) me in a way that the elliptical doesn't, so I've been trying to do it occasionally. There are definitely things that are always going to be easier for some people, but I think everyone can improve on the things that they find difficult. I doubt I'll ever be able to run 10 miles, and I probably won't be able to run less than a 9 minute mile if I do just one. My knees aren't cut out for it. But I would like to run a 5K next year as a challenge. I like challenges like running, pushups, pullups because they seem like skills that are actually useful in life. I can't do a pullup to save my life, btw - I was hoping the pushups would help, but the pushups really work triceps/chest while the pullups work biceps. Maybe that'll be the next challenge.
Anyway, I'm headed out - happy weekend! :flowerforyou:0 -
Last two day have been terrible. I ran a temperature all day yesterday and last night and most of this morning. Right now I feel like I've been pulled through a knot hole backwards. Everything hurts and when I'm sick I tend to sleep and eat and nothing else. So no exercise yesterday and probably won't be any today. Hoping to be able to go out and work in the yard tomorrow alittle. Everyone have a nice weekend. I'll come back tomorrow when there is something worth reporting.0

I just have to say. . ..
I just got back from one of the best yoga practices I've had in months! So, either the iron is already working, or the stress was weighing me down a lot more than I thought it was.
I feel amazing.
Thank you, that is all.
(this message brought to you by my current goal to "pay attention to how I feel after working out".):flowerforyou:0 -

I'm so sleepy, I'm a little slap happy.
I overate my pasta tonight, don't like this feeling. Doesn't happen much - normally I would go for a walk to get rid of it, but I really need to get to bed. My dad had me moving furniture today!0 -
I didn't much of anything done today. I did get the downstairs carpets cleaned, but that was it. I didn't even get in my push ups! :noway: That's the first time in 4 months that I have missed a day. I just didn't have time! I will do them in the morning. I may throw in a test first to see how I am doing. I was also very hungry again today! Then my girly started...sort of. :grumble: I pigged out at dinner and I don't regret it. It is unusual for me to be as hungry as I have been the last couple of days, even with my girly. I will do better tomorrow though! No pigging out!
Oh and my size 14 jeans are loose out of the dryer so I must be losing somewhere! I'll be glad to get back into my size 12 again!0
