I love looking at other people's diaries. It's interesting to me what they eat and I even get some good ideas from it. But I have to save I'm surprised at the number of people I see who are still eating unhealthy food, just less of it. I guess everyone is different, and as long as weight comes off, that's the important thing, isn't it?

I know when I first started a change from eating all junk, all the time, to super clean/healthy eating would have been way hard on me, and I never would have stuck with it.
The longer I have been on here, the better my eating has gotten, so maybe that's what others are doing? Idk, can't speak for anyone but myself!0 -
You can lose weight and still eat unhealthy foods. There are other health benefits that go along with eating better, but you can still lose weight if you don't, as long as you control portion sizes and calories.0

I think some of the reason people eat unhealthy food sometimes is economics food that is bad for you is cheaper. The Good Food Box is a program that runs in many community across N.America that provides nutritions fruits & veggies at affordable prices. google 'good food box' it's the first link.0

All good points. I have done this long enough to know that I have MAJOR problems with portion control, so I have to stay away from the "bad stuff" as much as possible. Hats off to those who can do it!0

Its a missunderstanding about healthy foods and unhealthy ones. the deal is if you eat unhealthy foods you tend to be hungery since the physical space that take up is less then that of healthy foods.. they call these energy dence foods or foods with empty cal's. i have a friend who eats nothing but fast food and is in the best shape you could emagine, short of high colesteral that is. but she burns over 8k cal a day in sports. me on the other hand, i try to eat more nutrent dence foods since i like to eat, this keeps the cals low wile keep nutrents high. 1 cup of Brocollie will fill me up the same as 1 cup of M&M's however the broccolie has only 60 cal i think it is wile the M&M's are at well probobly around 300 cal. You can eat "Unhealthy" foods all you want as long as your net cal intake is with in the range you should be at. their are other factores such as diabities, high blood presure, high colesteral that are still a factor. bad collesteral dosent go away, so they do need to pay atention to that. eating things like faty fish such as salmon helps with collesteral as well.0

Life is all about balance. Nothing wrong with eating unhealthy food, as long as you eat healthy food as well. "Healthy food" is generally low calorie, nutrient rich foods, and odds are if you eat enough of that to sustain your nutritional goals, you'll probably have calories left over, that's what dessert is for, to balance out the day. Sure you could eat MORE fruits and veggies to balance out the day, but hey, sometimes I want some ice cream. :happy:0

I try my best to eat only healthy food. You are welcome to look at my diary. Occasionally, I go over on my fat content goals, but I am pretty proud of the past couple of weeks and hope to keep it up.
Yes you can lose weight eating garbage, but you don't get to eat very much of it. If you eat healthy stuff, you can fill yourself until full and not feel deprived. If you eliminate the unhealthy stuff, the good stuff starts to taste pretty yummy.0 -

I know I haven't been able to eat that great for about 2 wks or so now just due to some finance issues. It will get better. hahaha However anything in the whole world out of moderation can be bad for you, no matter what it is. Small portions and self control mixed with proper exercise can go a long way when you can't afford to eat the right things.0 -
I'm trying not to judge...I'm just surprised when I see people eating a lot of fast food/sweets. But like I said, I know I can't do that. Once I eat those foods, they are my trigger to get off track again.0

I eat fast food,,but not nearly as much as I used to. Now it's Subway. But I don't deprive myself from my sweets! If I want something I'm gonna have it..BUT,,I have also noticed that now...I think twice. Do I really want to work out twice as hard and long for that doughnut or chocolate milk? Sometimes Yes..sometimes NO! Good Luck..and keep doing whatever works for you. I'm not losing a lot fast..just about a pound a week. I'm ok with that most of the time. I don't like feeling deprived, either of certain foods or quantity of food. I realized I can eat so much more if I choose better foods. There is usually also a healthier version of just about anything you can crave nowadays. I never have a problem with eating frozen yogurt or fat-free puddings or baked chips. Snacks, especially sweets are my downfall. We hardly eat out because it is much cheaper to cook at home, with less temptations.0

I woke up this morning craving oatmeal, fruit and hummus. Today I will be eating oatmeal, fruit and hummus, with some lean steak and mushrooms for dinner (yummo!). When I do today's C25K run, I'll be scrapping for extra calories at the end of the day.
This weekend was beer in moderation, a burger, some chicken and LOTS of movement ... it just varies, but apparently my body know what it wants.
I guess I do best with moderation.
And you have to give people credit for logging the unhealthier food instead of eating it in "secret" and feeling crappy about it. At least this way they know where they stand, calorie wise, and can adjust their day/workouts for that number.
I've found knowledge is power when it comes to this whole calorie counting lifestyle.0 -

I don't eat completely healthy. But I will say I'm way better than I used to be. In the past I could eat half a big bag of Doritos for a meal. Or a can of Spaghettios. Or three granola bars with peanut butter on them............and fast food for just about every meal every weekend Friday night - Sunday night when I used to visit my boyfriend down in Chicago (when he still lived there) every weekend.
Now, I eat fast food rarely. And it's never a place like McDonalds or Burger King; I'd rather eat at Qdoba or Chipotle or Buffalo Wild Wings. I try to make a point to fit the calories into my daily intake goal. I'm eating WAY more fruit and veggies, on average, than I used to. Maybe not EVERY DAY, but definitely much better than in the past - when I'd often go months without purchasing fresh produce.
I'm also more aware of how much water I drink.
I really haven't lost any weight except water weight, but I'm hoping that changes as I continue to make changes to how I eat!

I am not on a diet, but a healthy lifestyle and try to eat the foods that are good for me. I'm not saying I don't eat junk food at times, go out to eat, etc., but it's all about moderation. I would much rather eat the healthier foods and feel good, have energy, than to eat foods laden with fat, sodium, etc., and not feel so good. I've been there, and I'm enjoying this lifestyle so much better. As I'm sure you've all heard before, it's not a sprint, it's a journey. Take care.0

I'm guilty of eating (and drinking) unhealthy foods. I watch portion sizes and try to remain within calories anyway. The way I see it is if no food is forbidden, then I'm not going to beat myself up for eating it and more likely to stick with the program. And I'm still losing weight the healthy way. (I'm also eating much healthier than I was 5 months ago - which at that time I was drinking about 1100 calories a day in soda pop, and then eating about 1200 - 1800 calories on top of that).0

I started off eating mostly junk food. That included diet food.
Transitioning to real, whole foods was exactly that. A transition. It took time.
And I don't eat 100% clean. I operate under a rough 80/20 clean/junk philosophy. It keeps me sane.0 -

There are quite a few people on the message boards who like to post mean comments just to try and get a fight started. When you post something you just have to ignore them.
Now my response:
I definitely still eat fast food but nothing like I used to. Chick-fil-a, panera, subway and chipotle are pretty much the only ones I go to now. I don't remember the last time I got a hamburger from a fast food restaurant. For me it's about what is quick and easy. The healthier foods are never as easy and I don't like cooking. My husband does all of the cooking and he doesn't like healthy foods. I've learned to use moderation and exercise and have been very successful doing it. I definitely don't eat as unhealthy as I used to but I know I could be eating healthier.0 -

I've seen some news show on people living on social assitance or just working poor that suffer from diabetes. And literally they can't afford the healthy food it's so sad. Their meds are covered from socail assistance, but if they could afford to eat right they may be able to come off their meds. It's a very serious problem. I feel so sorry for people in that circumstance I was a single mom for a few years and it was hard. Thankfully there was a Good Food Box program in my neighbourhood.0 -
It's a gradual process really. I was living out of convenience stores for a while because I could easily portion control snacks that way. Now I try not to eat too much of that in general.0

I haven't been eating as healthy as I would like either... not by choice but because of financial situation.
I don't recommend anyone altogether giving up unhealthy if their body is used to unhealthy.
I think that leads to more bad days, as weight loss is more than just will power.
It's probably better to wean themselves off the unhealthy and incorporate more healthy foods.
I don't honestly know if i could completely give up some of my fave unhealthy foods. I don't have them that often anyway.

Sorry if I came across rude, I didn't mean to. I just had gone through her diary and saw it wasn't exactly clean eating so I was more referring to her saying that she was surprised people weren't eating 'healthy' and that 'healthy' obviously means something different to each of us.0
