I was told anything under 20 minutes isn't a true exercise is this true? So my 14 minutes on the Elliptical don't really count? Just curious on this THANKS!

I'm pretty sure anything that raises your heart rate is considered exercise regardless of the time you spend doing it. Of course, the longer you go - the more calories you'll burn, etc.

One thing I have read many times over? Anything over 60 mins leads to muscle fatigue and possible injury.

I have read conflicting info on this subject.

Some say anything over ten minutes of raised HR is good, some fiften, some twenty.

I have walked on my 15 minutes breaks (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) while losing 50 pounds...so it sure didn't hurt me any!

I now aim for 30 to 60 minutes of running three times a week and then that long for walks on the off days.

I try and do at least 20-45 minutes but that is REALLY hard with my situation of 6 kids I was aiming for 20 minutes on elliptical today and only got to 14 before Eliana woke up from her nap which resulted waking up Blake ( 4 and 17 month old)

bologna. Do any work that raises your heart rate and you are doing good for your body. Nothing about it 'doesn't count'. Keep doing what you can, even if it is 5 minute bits during the day.

I have read many things that you need to be in your heart rate zone for thirty minutes to burn fat. I try and do an hour with about 45-50 nib of THR(target heart rate)

I walk my dog twice a day for 12 to 15 minutes at a time and also try to get in some extra walking on my own. I never seem to get more than 20 at a time though. I've lost 16 pounds this way, so I'd have to say it's working. :)

What someone was prob telling you was that after 20 minutes your body kicks into fat burning mode. You burn the most calories after 20 minutes, so it's best to go for a while beyond that to maximize on your exercise and benefits.

so if you dont burn fat until after 20 minutes is there anything beneficial for short ones (under 20)?
