i seem to be hungry all the time now that im trying to lose weight.
i want to eat 1200 calories (all together) but i seem to eat over 1500 everyday!
although i still have 1200 net calories after exercising, i feel like im eating too much and im doing it wrong!
for example, i snacked on 800 calories today, AND IM STILL HUNGRY!

heres an example of my meals
breakfast: i try and each about 300 calories here
i eat oats with water or i will have 3-4 weetabix with low fat milk and splenda
for lunch: i try and eat about 350 calories
somtimes i will have sushi, an egg white omlette or a basic sandwhich
dinner: 300-700 calories
my family always have big dinners, thats just the way we are. i try to eat a little and most of the time i do, but the food she makes does have a large calorie total!

then for snacks: im ALWAYS hungry, i dont know why! im never ever full and i could always fit in more and more!
i wish i could say my snack are about 200-300 calories but most of the time they exeed that!

for exercise i try and burn 300 calories a day

so im just wondering what i can do to not eat as much,
why i am always hungry!
also if what im doing is right,
and if i should go off gross calories or net calories as i was doing.

i dont know if i will get help on this but if i do i want to thankyou! im truly grateful!

There a couple things it can be:

    1. Thirst can be confused as hunger. Try to make sure you are drinking lots of plain water.
    2. Need to eat less carbs and more protein and fats.
    3. I always feel hungry if my body is craving something I am not giving it.

    Good Luck.
  • You might not be drinking enough water. I alway drink a full glass before and after each time I eat. It helps me consume less during a meal and 9 times out of 10, if I'm still hungry after I've eaten, it's because I'm actually thirsty. I definitely used to feel the same way until I stumbled upon this little piece of information on the web. Hope that helps and stay strong!

I used to to huge binges in the afternoon. Just get away from food for a while. It takes a few minutes to feel satisfied after eating, so the more distractions the better.

If your net calroies are 1200 you are doing fine.

Regarding hunger.... when you lose weight you are sometimes hungry, especially at the beginning. don't panic. have a cup of tea and chew some gum. it will pass.

I can only speak to my experience, but I used to binge eat and i had insane hunger that was hard to ever satisfy. However, after i started MFP and tried my best to hit my calorie goals I did have to learn to not panic when I got hunger feelings and after a while I began to learn what real hunger feels like (for me, it's more of an awarenss of an empty stomache that indicates i should probably eat something in the next hour or so.... it is not the intense gnawing feeling that demanded to be satisfied immediately with whatever food was immediately avaialble and was very hard to quench even after eating).

i suspect you need to give your body some time to adjust to the positive changes you are implementing. make food decisions with your head, not in reaction to what could be false indications from your body from old bad habits.

give it another week or two without giving into the large calories in the evening (try to go to bed early if that helps) and see if your body begins to adjust.

    good luck!

Drink more water. Also, if you're still hungry, why not just up your calories to 1500/day? 1200 is the BARE minimum, and if you're always eating the bare minimum, how can you adjust your diet if/when you hit a plateau? I'm eating 1650/day, plus whatever workout calories I have. And I'm still losing on average, 2.5 lbs per week. When I was eating 1200 and working out really hard, I wasn't losing anything. I upped my calories, lowered my workouts, and I'm doing better. MUCH better. I'm also very rarely hungry these days.

Yes! this helps too. i did this consistently in the beginning until my body adjusted to less food.
  • I don't know how many weeks you have been on MFP but it took me several (3ish for me personally) for my body to get use to the 1200 calories. I felt hungry all the time. Like everyone else is saying tho, water will help. Try to stay busy, chew a piece of sugar free gum, exercise, etc. It will pass. Good luck!! :flowerforyou:

if you re-read the post, she is eating over 1500 calories a day. 1200 was her net number. Looks like she is eating enough.
