What to eat before/after shred?

I just completed day 2 of the 30 day shred and I'm feeling quite weak. I can barely pick up my 25 pound toddler and I feel like I could collapse any minute. The last "meal" I had was around 3am (I work night shift) then I had a 100 cal pack of almonds before my workout. If I'm going to make it back for day 3, I need to fix this. Would a protein shake be appropriate after my workout?

    i found if i eat a handfull of almonds before a workout then drink a protien shake (ie muscle milk) right after i avoid that weak feeling

    I've completed the 30DS and found that a banana or a glass of chocolate milk does the trick. (I use fat free milk and sugar free chocolate syrup)
