Hey everyone!

(Warning: newbie with some questions :) )

Just wanted to get people's opinions on a few things. I know water is essential, thats a no brainer, but for those of you who track how much water you are drinking, do you count "Just water"?

What I mean by that is, my wife and I like to drink Crystal light with our water. I know that adds sodium to what we are taking in, but it keeps me from getting sick of "Just water". Should I be counting that as water drank?

Also I will drink the occasional low-cal gatorade or low-cal cranberry juice. Should I count this too?

Thanks!

My nutritionist said to me - that crystal light and mio and things like that can count as water, but juice and Gatoraid and things like that can not - I did not ask why - I just went with it, so thats how I do it. I am sure there a a million different thoughts on this...... good luck with your journey!

water is counted is water... anything else you should log into your diary because it has calories! i think you could count the crystal lite as water tho... it doesn't add calories. i always add a couple drops of lime juice to my water for flavor and it doesn't add calories so i count that as my water for the day...

I count crystal light and any of the sugar free mix ins as water. When I did Weight Watchers they said we can count those as water. I also saw an article online that said skim milk can be counted as water.

Count the crystal light as water but also log it so that you can add the sodium to your daily intake calculations. I log mine n count it as water.... :o)

Gatorade and juice I wouldn't count as water, but I log crystal light in my diary and track it as water. There is a bit of sodium in a packet, but considering I dilute it in a liter of water, I don't think it has much of an impact. I would still try to get in as much "real" plain water as you can though.
  • It has actually been discussed with scientists and weight loss specialists that water itself holds no nutrient value. The reason water is recommended though is because it is natural, and the best thing to fill you up before a meal. You need to keep yourself hydrated and water is the best thing you can do.

I count water and crystal light as long as the crystal light does not have caffeine in it, because the caffeine is going to make you go to the bathroom more and thus need more water. I log the crystal light also though so that it keeps track of the calories(which are minimal, 5 or 10) and also the sodium.

If you looking at it from a hydration standpoint absolutely. If the drinks you are consuming have calories I would also log them in the food journal.

The only beverage that results in a net fluid loss is alcohol, everything else has some hydrating effect. Since this statement maybe controversial I included a link to a study.

There are probably as many opinions as users on this subject. I use MIO and log it as water. I am not overly strict when it comes to logging. I try to log as much as possible, but you can drive yourself mad trying to get every crumb.

Do it for a while, see which road you take and stick with the one most often traveled.
