My jealosy was holding me back

When I started MFP on Memorial Day my husband had lost 80 pounds over the previous year, and I hadn't even tried. I was jealous and bitter. I wanted what he had, but not to do the work! My daughter had the answer. She told me to try being happy for him. To compliment his success and to enjoy helping him pick out a new wardrobe. How did my daughter get so smart?
When I changed my attitude, everything changed! I told my husband how proud I was of all his hard work. I really enjoyed kitting him out with a new, more current wardrobe, (with 30 inch waist instead of 44!) Something inside me changed, I wasn't just "saying" the encouragement; it was real!
I've been 40 days on MFP now and the weight loss is slow. I'm happy though because I ditched the crippling attitude. We went to Charleston for the 4th of July and had a terrific time. Yes, I went over a bit on my food, but not like I used to. Yesterday we were back in the gym and into a healthy eating pattern. I know it took my husband a year to lose his weight and I will continue to work toward my own success, without the jealousy! You Look Terrific Sweetie....

You know what? It's great that you can admit what was holding you back, but what a gift you have in your husband. Not only can he be an inspiration for you, but do you know how many women complain that they are being sabotaged in their weight loss journey because their husband won't help or get on board? You are in a situation where if you buy or cook healthy stuff - he won't complain! He has already embraced the lifestyle - you just are getting on board. If it were the other way around, and you were on board and he held back - think how hard that would be for you.

You two are entering a new phase of life where you will enjoy activities together - not just food. Congrats!

I kinda know how you feel. My husband and I both started losing weight together by eating right and exercising daily. He's lost 20 lbs so far while I've only lost 10. I know that women's bodies are different and that we lose slower and gain back faster, but for the life of me, I can't stand it! His jeans are too big and he's tightening up his belt so they don't fall off, meanwhile I'm finally able to fit properly into my clothes (whereas before I thought I was gonna to die from the strain of my pants on my waistline!).

Keep doing what you're doing. Use your husband as an inspiration and let him know that. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one feeling a little animosity lately. Thanks for being so honest!
