Hunger, Working Out, and that...umm...GIRL THING.

So I've been doing really well on MFP the past 2 months, and I can tell a difference in the food I crave, the "not quite so full" feeling I have when I eat enough but not too much, in my stamina, and in my body overall. BUT...every month when that GIRL THING comes around, I feel bloated but hungry, tired but restless, and I always -- ALWAYS -- gain weight.

I know it's water weight, I know it's hormones. I've had 2 kids, and I KNOW how that silly girl thing can mess with your body (and your brain), believe ME. But should I compensate for this week every month by doing something differently?? I keep pushing through at my same pace, try to keep eating well, working out hard, doing all the things I'm supposed to...but I feel like I'm fighting my body the whole time. Keep pushing, or...?

Advice?

    Keep pushing!!

Try to avoid those things your craving but it it's driving you nuts, you may end up eating everything else in the house so you might as well go ahead and have that piece of chocolate or snack bag of chips that you REALLY want. Sometimes it's better to give in to the cravings...then go for a walk to burn off the calories. :)

And maybe also be more conscious of your sodium intake and drink a bit more water to try to offset that water weight gain.

Fight it out! That's happened to me a few times but I kept telling myself to push through. Once I pushed through it last week I lost 2 pounds...stay strong!

Knowing something doesn't make it easier, does it? Don't beat yourself up.

What to do during those days or the days leading to it.... the ONLY thing that comes to mind is.... beware of salt/sodium.

Thanks, NayShel. I realized I'm probably also drinking more caffeine to keep myself "up" during those times, so you're probably right about needing more water. :)

Did ya ever see that commercial for some weight loss supplement where the cartoon wife says "I've had nothing but water for 6 months, I haven't had bread in 3 years, I work out every day and I've lost 2 lbs. My husband cut out diet soda last week and 'VOILA!' he lost 30 lbs." The cartoon dog next to her sips water out of his bowl and instantly gets thinner, and she just screams "UUUUGGGGH." :} I feel like that sometimes. Darn those female hormones!!!

I've been having problems with that girl thing and she has been in town for the past month straight, plus about 10 days of every month before that... I had read once that our bodies are actually capable of working harder during TOM, maybe because of the hormonal changes? For that reason, I always try to push myself harder during that time. My nutrition decisions aren't always the best, but at least I'm bringing it on the mat!
