I am wondering why I would burn more calories running outside then inside on a treadmill? I have been wearing a HRM and my outside burn for 30 min is about 300 calories and on the tradmill it is closer to 225...am I running that much faster outside?

It could be speed, or hills, uneven ground, type of terrain, etc. The air could be different so your body works harder just breathing.0 -
Your body may be working harder to adjust to the conditions outside... Temperature, air quality, uneven surfaces, etc....0

It is never good when it burns inside...
Sorry... but really I always think running outside takes more effort then on the treadmill.0 -
Do you hold onto the treadmill? Pump your arms outside? That would be my guess.0

I have the same issue. I can hit a mile very easily outdoors, but not indoors.
I think that the treadmill has perimeters of space and speed. Outdoors we can walk faster w/o having to increase the speed, and we have more room to walk freely so our strides are longer.
This is what I tell myself, but I would like to read what others write. :-)0 -
running indoors is completely different to outdoors, it is though doesn't always feel it easier therefore you expend less doing the same length of time outdoors you have wind and other elements, terrain, and hills to contend with and you don't have a cushioned footfall either, you'll find your speed varies over your outdoor run but indoors the machine keeps it consistent,.0

Whether its indoors or outdoors, it does the job. Especially if I've lost all of my weight inside.0 -

Additionally, a friend of mine (who is a trainer) once told me to set the incline on the treadmill to 1.0%, it counteracts the assistance the belt of the treadmill provides.
So when I wanna run "flat" on the treadmill, I run at a 1.0% incline.0 -
Thanks, I am gonna up my incline a bit when I have to go inside.0
