I know this happens but was not aware of it before today. I am literally full!! I mean FULL. Yet my mind keeps wandering toward snacking. I am on glass 11 of water so its not thirst.

Any ideas on how to get through this night?

this is food addiction and you are certainly not alone!

I tend to drink water, then see how that goes..then an apple or maybe a handful of peanuts :-)

Stay occupied with other things! This ALWAYS happens to me about 9 or 10 when studying. If needed, grab a fruit or granola bar. :)

keep your hands busy...crafts, crosswords, puzzles...
call a friend to keep yourself busy.
    take a walk.

good luck...late night snacking is the hardest thing to overcome, in my opinion!

Ok I will try to prolong it push come to shove I have watermelon here.

So if this is addiction (similar to smoking?) Is kicking is just mind over matter?

as an ex-smoker i'll tell you that for me, most of the craving is mouth-specific. when i was quitting smoking i would often get a whole clove and suck on it for a while to deaden my taste buds (don't swallow it) and now i use cinammon sugar free gum - dentyne fire is the spiciest i've found so far. that, and doing something completely different in another room (wii fit plus is a great, fun distraction) helps a whole lot.

you know what doesn't help, though? eating. it never EVER stops that kind of craving.

a useful mantra when i was quitting smoking was "the urge to smoke will pass whether i smoke or not." you might consider something similar for food, although i don't know what it might be. it's true, either way.

I usually find something else to do. Try taking a walk out of your home? I was wanting to snack today, then started to log it first....changed my mind.
    Good luck. It's tough!

Yes it seems I have somewhat of a double whammy.

I quit smoking nearly 1 year ago (August 25)
I substitute those cravings with sugar free gum. I will try water, gum and activity and make it through these as well.

It is mind boggling how much my mind can lie to me... Saying I want something when my belly (or lungs) want for nothing.

I am working hard on improving things here with my diet. I haven't got that down pat yet so these cravings caught me by surprise.

I will try everything but eating.

Thanks so much guys. I really needed this distraction and information/support!

M, I don't know if you remember when you were quitting smoking, but at some point it becomes second nature to know when the cravings are going to hit, and plan what to do to avoid making a lousy choice (i.e., smoking). Given the fact that you're an intelligent, determined lady, I'm sure that with time and your increased awareness of your own moods and how they affect your cravings, you'll do just fine.:flowerforyou:

Actually I never planned for those times. I have been winging it. Talking myself through the cravings. I did that last night to and I am please to say I made it through without a bite.

    Thanks to ALL!!!
