Do you have a cheat day or cheat meal every so often? I do just so I can have my guilty pleasure of Chinese food. Tomorrow is that day for me.

  • I give myself a cheat day once a month. I think its fair plus I have the holidays covered...I don't have to worry about having that slice of pumpkin pie if its a cheat day! :-)

Plus having a cheat day every so often "shocks my metabolism" and keeps me from plateauing too bad.

    Cheat days ROCK!:glasses:

Never. Only make sure I work out for 1-2 hours if I really need something.

I realized this week that I am not quite ready to allow myself cheat days. I had one on Sunday when my family went to the Renaissance Faire and I have binged every day since...I fully agree with the concept of a cheat meal or a cheat day, and I think it's great for breaking a plateau as long as it's not abused. I also think that food shouldn't be a reward...so at this point it's business as usual for me...and no more cheat days until I've developed a much healthier relationship with food...my weight loss goals can't afford another cheat day that turns into a cheat week...

I'm not so sure I call anything a 'cheat'... as for me this is a lifestyle change of eating healthy...which means nothing is off limits....just everything in moderation. But I do clean eating and that doesn't really include simple carbs etc. anymore so if I want something that way I just plan in what I want to eat if it's something out of the ordinary and either workout a bit longer or plan ahead for the week on the day I'll be eating out or whatever.

For myself I prefer not to use the word cheat....because that's more of a diet term and for me those days are long past. Cheat seems like it's secretive....ya know what I mean?

But I think planning a treat ahead of time by all means GO FOR IT! But the pre-planning is the important part so it doesn't turn into a full on binge.:drinker:

Very wise advice Laura....if I began eating cookies or some thing like that...a old binge food....I don't think it would be 2 cookies...because it's a simple carb...and those are so addicting so yes, I can see how it would be so easy to continue the binge even after the so called 'cheat day'.

Probably why I don't use the word and keep to clean eating 99.9% of the time unless it's a planned snack incorporated into my food plan.

You sound like you're getting to really know yourself Laura and getting to be in a really good place... awareness is the first key to change....

I always enjoy reading your posts here on MFP.....you're a wise girl....and share interesting articles as well:flowerforyou:
  • Cheat meals are healthy...not days. CHeat days are just too many calories, but if you have a cheat meal you get what you want minus all the extra calories. Its important to let your body have what it wants every once in a while so that you dont binge eat the next time that you allow your body to have whats its craving. Everything in proportion!!

I totally agree that "cheat" is a bad word to use. I guess I'm not sure what to call it. I never do a whole day of it. Just a meal once a month or so. I am fully able to get back to business after indulging so I am not worried about it turning into more than an indulgent meal.
Thanks for your replies. I was just curious is other indulged every so often.

When I first came off the weight a few years back, 289 to 198, I would pick Saturdays for a semi cheat day. Not really fatty foods or sweets, but a few starches and regular sweet tea or a diet soda and cereal, just a few favs. Then Sunday, I would start it again. I lost more weight that way.....

So why in the crap can't I get on the ball again?

Do a cheat day once in a while......

If you deprive your self of it, you may go over board and loose control....
