I am going to be 30 in January - YIKES! My goal is to be in my 130's by the time I am 30. I am currently at 173 - so I have a ways to go! I am a full time working mother of 2 active boys. My only time for me to exercise is after they go to bed at night, so I am looking at in-home options. I have an eliptical, which I do enjoy, but it doesn't have much variation I am looking at DVD's including INSANITY, P90X, Jillian's 30 day shred, Zumba...ect. There are SSSOOO many to choose from! Which direction do I go? I don't want anything that will last longer than 45 minutes because I am afraid I won't stick with it. I am farily active, but definetly not in the best shape of my life. I want to lose the FAT before I gain muscle, but I think it goes hand-in-hand.
Help! I need suggestions and I need FRIENDS for support!

P90X you'll get the cardio and weight training simultaneously. That's what you need. Don't wait until you lose the fat because you may end up with a lot of loose skin. Plus you'll burn more calories doing both.0

I would recommend starting out with 30 day shred to get a good workout and get in the "zone" for working out so to speak. P90x requires equipment and is pretty hardcore for just starting out. Once you're comfortable with 30 day shred, you could then move on to Insanity. It is pretty hardcore too, but doesn't require any additional equipment.0

I turn 30 in September, I have 2 young boys as well and work full time too - I have lost 45 pounds over the last year in preparation for that and am very near my goal.
When I started out, I did Turbo Fire, it is fun, a good workout and the variety of the workouts kept me interested when it was times were hard. Within a month or two, it was necessary to add in other forms of exercise and if you really want to be in good shape and lean down, weight training is a must, whether that is P90X or at a gym. I can recommend some really good books that would start you on phased weight training, if you're interested.
The key is to add something new in every 4-8 weeks so that your body never gets used to it and keeping your calories in check so that the exercise can be effective.
I am sure you'll get lots of good advice and will do beautifully with anything you choose - just be consistent and the results will follow0 -
Hi! I love the elliptical. And the 30 Day Shred is pretty good and it only lasts about 25 minutes. Denise Austin DVD's are good to. Her 12 Moves In 12 Minutes is good. You can decide how long you want your workout to be and you can choose lower body, upper body, cardio. The same with Biggest Loser Cardio Max and Power Sculpt, you can choose the workouts one by one or choose to workout out to the entire DVD. Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds is very selective too. You can choose to walk 1 mile or many and they all last about 10-15minutes... each mile that is. I hope you find that works for you.
I workout at home and get my workout done while fam is resting. My time to focus on melting this fat away0 -
Congrats on taking control of your healthy lifestyle.
My wife and I started P90X together 44 days ago and we're doing GREAT. Just like you, we do it after our little one has gone to bed. So typically around 8 or 9 at night...some times we didn't get started closer to 10. But what's important is that you stick with it. Any of the programs you chose will work, AS LONG AS your diet (nutrition) is in check and you are consistent with your exercises (again regardless of the program), you need to stick with it (do it every day) and BRING IT!
Per P90X though, ALL days are longer than 45 minutes. Most are around 50-60 minutes. Yoga within the program is something like 90 minutes. So staying true to your requirements of not being longer than 45 minutes, not sure P90X is a good fit. I do think P90X will be a nice fit for you, as you will definitely burn fat and gain muscle (you're right, the two do go hand and hand).
Insanity may be a better fit, as it is not as long (50+ minutes). None the less, its not the quantity of time which gives us results, it's what you do within that time. So regardless of the program you chose, get your diet in check and whatever program you chose to do...do your absolute best and forget the rest. :-p

I second the comment on nutrition! P90X is longer than 45 mins. Thr shred is short and effective and works in strength, cardio and abs in 3 circuits....you just need weights. A shorter version on P90X is the one Tony put out before it, Power 90.My husband and i have been doing that and seen good results. You alternate strength and cardio days 6 days a week, with one rest day. They are about 30 minutes in the begginner series (1-2) and when you're ready to progress to 3-4, they are about 40-45 minutes. We ordered through my husbands coach at Beachbody and there was a bonus DVD Fat burner Express that was 35 minutes and AWESOME!!! I opted to do that over the power 90 cardio some days If you need more info, you can message me Good luck!!!0
