I would say it is okay if it is packed in water. If it is in syrup or juice, then I think you should pay attention and limit it. But if it comes in syrup or juice and you rinse it off and don't drink the liquid then you should be okay as the sugar in the fruit would be paired with fiber.

Fresh is best. There are high-sugar fruits (mangoes, bananas for example) and low sugar fruits (cherries, apples, blueberries). The problem with canned fruit is that the enzymes that provide optimal digestion and nutrition are depleted. That means there will be way less fiber content and vitamins. The longer the time between the picking and canning of the fruit, more nutrients are lost. I used to eat canned pineapple because fresh pineapple used to be so expensive. Now, I eat only fresh fruit, no canned fruit. The taste is incomparable. My fiber intake is at a higher level than before. My body is being fed with more nutrient-dense food.

Canned fruit may last longer (a few years) but is that really a good thing? I playfully call canned fruit, mummified food because even if it is packed in water, there still has to be a preserving agent for it not to spoil.

Canned fruit maybe cost effective when eating fruits out of season but try eating seasonal fruits instead. I've enjoyed the variety of eating fruits seasonally.

My order of fruit consumption is:

    1. Fresh fruit
    2. Frozen fruit (sometimes I freeze overripe fresh fruits or I buy)
    3. Dried fruit (Rarely and I don't consume it like fresh fruit. It's like nature's candy. Concentrated sugar. I only eat it with granola and on hiking trips).

    All the best.
