Anyone else have annoying scales?

Last year for my birthday, my husband bought me this beautiful brand new Weight Watchers scale, to show his support for my weight loss efforts. (Isn't he sweet??)
I love him, so I use it, but sometimes it's really frustrating! :grumble:
This morning is just the way it usually works: I step on the scales and see my weight at 213.7. That's a 2-pound loss, so yay! I then proceed to (excuse me) go to the bathroom. Then I step on the scales again (because I must have lost more, right? ;-) ) - and I'm UP to 214.8!!
I then get off, wait a few minutes, step on again, and it's still 214.8. Argh! OK, so I enter that for my weigh-in. It's still a one-pound loss, so I'm happy about that. :drinker:
And I hate to just get rid of it, since it was a gift, given with such loving intentions. :flowerforyou:
But maybe I could just sort of "accidentally" drop it from the top of a tall building?

Hah! Everyone has annoying scales! Scales were invented to make us crazy.
I weigh myself once every morning (just so I can see what that ice cream does to me) but only record or count every 10days. I've tried that before and after thing and it's just not worth it.0 -
mine is usually on track, but I always step on and off the scale 5 times, then use the number it gives me most. sometimes it gives me two different numbers, but most of the time its pretty consistent.
So, I feel your pain.0 -
My scale and your scale MUST be related. My deepest sympathies. Have you tried replacing the batteries?0
-
My scale is only annoying when it refuses to show me a loss. Otherwise, it can make my day!! :laugh:0

Always go with the first reading when you weigh yourself because your body weight will flux a bit.0

I bought a scale from Costco that shows your fat, hydration, weight etc., almost like a body composition from a professional gym. The problem is after about six months the weight is not changing, I now have to press the set button sometimes and then other times it just works by stepping on it. Very frustrating as I have lost faith how accurate it maybe.
If anyone has a solid quality name brand of a good scale I would welcome it.

I think most digital scales do this. I know mine does. I do what one other person suggested; I weigh myself 5 times and take the number that comes up most.0

Mine does that...AND it is a "magic" scale because it's recorded weight is actually about three pounds lighter than my actual weight. YAY I get to see fluctuation AND do math. ::sarcasm::0

the WW by conair scales are notorious for this and there are several threads about them0

Hahahahaha.....
I have a very stooo-pid scale and I didn't even know it. I just found out that my digital scale is not calibrated and is 'adding' 4 lbs to my weight. I keep it because at least it is consistently off by 4 lbs, but I am already shopping for a new one. Guess Weight Watchers is not going to be it. hahahaha
So this is what I do on my digital scale. I usually test three times. Most of the times it will read the same thing all three times.... sometimes it will give me 2 out f three. They are certainly not perfect.
Should you keep your scale? Sure. Perhaps you can get another just in case?0 -
I don't have a ww scale but was having the same problem - i posted about it several months ago.
I'd weight myself 3 or 4 times in a row to get a "real" reading and they would all be off by oz and lbs
Here is the advice I got and what has been working - I move my scale. My bathroom has small tiles and it was not laying flat.
I also moved it a place where it can stay and not get moved when I need to use it. This is non technical but that way it stays in place, flat and the weighing sensor (things) stay still and don't jostle around.
I also stand in the same spot on the scale when I weigh myself
All that has seemed to do the trick. Now when I step on, get off and then decide to reweigh - cause I either love or hate what it says - the weight is the same since it's only been 20 seconds!0 -
Mine is a Tanita (or something like that) digital scale. It's supposed to also calculate % body fat but I jump off before it starts that- it' something I DON'T need to see right now. What's been so annoying is that it cannot give me the same measurement twice in a row. I weigh 3 times one right after another and I get 3 different results (usually all within a pound). I just changed this batteries this weekend to no avail. I weigh every day- so I guess as long as it ultimately trends down that's a good thing.0

I named my scale Rocky because that's the type of relationship we have... veeeeery rocky. hah
I do the same thing as a couple of other people mentioned... i weigh myself several times and take the number that's most consistent. I also try to not weigh myself more than twice a week.0 -
My scale is awesome Ive had for about a year and a half the only time it messed up I changed batteries and it was wonderful again It is a Taylor digital scale it does the bodyfat stuff and all that but I dont mess with that, however it was the same price as the WW ones I used to buy (about 25-30) and they would always mess up and still seem odd after changing batteries so I bought a Taylor because my grandma had one and has had hers for 5 yrs without a problem0

I have a scale at home but I don't use it for my official weigh ins. i use a more profesional scale at the gym I go to because it is more accurate. Although both seem to be pretty in sync with each other lately.0

Mine will do the same thing.. And sometimes I'll hop on with clothes, then without.. And the weight is the same!! Even if I was wearing heavy blue jeans and everything.
We have always had digital scales.. But I am inclined to say that regular old non-battery powered are probably more accurate, partly because you can zero them in with the little wheel. I've never seen a digital tat you can calibrate0 -
My last Digital Bathroom scale got wet a few months ago and it started displaying half numbers ie 19st (Blank). Apart from the fact that my bathroom scales should be waterproof (you would have thought) they were very good.
I have a new set now that are evil  . They recalibrate themselves everytime you step on them but not in the motivating way. I'm sorry to say that these ones ARE waterproof...0 -
LOL! Too funny scales suck, they always go up and down. Although they are a great way to track your progress there are many other ways to do so. I also track all my measurements in inches and also by the way my clothes fit. (If I am able to get in to a pair of pants that I was unable to fit for a while). I don't think I would be to upset if I accidentally dropped my scale from the top a building either ; )0

My scale is loony-tunes. It gives me different weights within seconds, so I just take either the average out of three or the lowest, depending on my mood! :bigsmile:0

Always go with the first reading when you weigh yourself because your body weight will flux a bit.
In that case I'm going to revise my weigh-in for this morning!! :-)0 -
Batteries!
Yep!! thats what I was thinking too!!!
I find if I get on a few times and it flucuates too much then I change the batteries and all is good again.0 -
Yes my weight watcher scales is all over the place even if I weigh same place same time of day and I put new batteries in it. I am getting an ld dial one.0
-
Mine can be quite annoying too. I weigh myself a few times and use the number it gives me the most. Or I use the scale at the gym because it's manual, with the little bars you move across and balance it.0

I wish every time I got on the scale it just said PERFECT instead of a number... wouldn't that be awesome ladies?!!! :laugh:0
