I'm really excited, I just ordered my FT40 last night, I'm going to be on pins and needles until it gets here. I had an F11 (old model) but something happened to the seal the last time I changed the battery and ce la vie. I looked at the FT7, but decided that it was worth paying a little extra for the FT40 to get the fitness test. Does anyone know how the FT40 actually stacks up against the FT7 and the old F11 (they no longer make this model).

I use the FT4 and didn't know they even made a FT40. Lots more features I guess but what are they. FT4 gives me all the data I need.0

My F11 based my calorie count off of my fitness test (resting hr and some other factors), age, weight, height, and hr. I'm trying to determine the difference in functionality. On the website the FT4 is listed at about $100, the FT7 $120, and the FT40 $180. I picked the FT40 up on amazon for $115.
I had purchased a Garmin 305 about 6 weeks and ended up returning it because it didn't calorie count based on hr, it calorie counted based on distance covered. I don't road run as much as I did 8 weeks ago, but even then the functionality doesn't make any sense to me, I spent $180 on something that didn't count calories based on hr? hum . . . so I went back to the drawing board and returned to polar.0 -
How do you like the ft40 now? I had the f11 and I am thinking of buying the ft40 now that my old one bit the dust. Can you tell me if it is a good buy or if there is something better out there?

FT40 is supposedly the replacement for the F11. I recently looked at both--since my F11 also bit the dust (actually, battery went dead and I decided to try something new).
In keeping with my usual practice to always buy more technology features than I will ever use, I bought an FT60 (step up from the FT40). I can't remember the difference, but there was something in the FT60 that I thought I might use--I think it included a feature that analyzed HR to see if you had fully recovered from the previous workout. Like I said, I never used any of those features in my F11, but you never know......
One thing I like about both the FT40 and FT60 is that you can still manually enter VO2max. You might have to take the Fitness Test first and establish your OwnIndex, but it can be done--after you do the Fitness Test, you can go back to User Settings and change the number to your VO2max. Again, I don't really use the calorie count feature, but I still like to provide as much user setup detail as possible. Don't ask me why.
Unless $$ were a huge issue, I would choose the FT40 over the FT7. The FT4 and 7 are a little too basic for me.0
