Hi everyone ! I am Lyn, I am 27 years old and a new mom to a beautiful baby boy that was born via c-section almost 6 weeks ago. I have hypothyroidism and lupus which make weight loss hell especially since I've been on steroids continuously since I was 20 years old. We are going to start weaning me off it as soon as my doctors feel it's safe ,so I do not have a lupus flare postpartum. I am more than ready to get this weight off again. I had lost well over 100 pounds 6/7 years ago but going on prednisone , I gained it all back plus some.

I have had weight problems since my teens , sadly even dealt with eating disorders to lose weight and even sadder the doctor I told said as long as I was losing weight don't worry about it! Thankfully I knew it wasn't healthy, seen a new doctor and got started on weight loss . My new doctor also found that I had severe hypothyroidism that had been untreated for years, thankfully getting on medication the weight started falling off. Then I got sick about 20/21 years old, no one knew what was wrong with me for months and I got sicker and sicker. Finally a doctor came along that said if you take this medication (prednisone) and feel better I know what's wrong with you. Well I felt better than I had in along time, doctors diagnosed me with a rare form of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis called still's disease. For years I would feel better then flare ,so I remained on the prednisone.

We decided to start a family a few years ago, we had several losses and then in 2010 our daughter was stillborn this was when it was confirmed that my stills was not stills but lupus which sadly caused our other losses as well. Some reason my body didn't turn ana and dna positive until I was pregnant that time. Through this pregnancy we were constantly monitored , was on baby aspirin and on prednisone changing the doses when worried about a flaring. I was 338 pre-pregnancy and gained 35 pounds, gaining the bulk towards the end. I lost 15 pounds within a week and have lost 5 more . I am breastfeeding /pumping , so I had hoped to lose more but I'm not eating enough according to lactation nurse and nutritionist .

A friend of mine recommended my fitness pal , so here I am . I am waiting for my 6 week check up to be released to workout like I want . Thankfully besides the lupus, hypothyroidism and allergies galore I am healthy with no bp, diabetes or cholesterol problems . I'd like to keep it that way and losing weight will help that. I am hoping to meet some supportive people and perhaps even some moms that breastfeed as my lactation nurse has me concerned that my already low supply will suffer from my weight loss /working out. I am also hoping to learn ways to eat the high amount of calories I need to lose weight and maintain breastfeeding as they are both important to me.

Hopefully once I am completely off the prednisone , the weight loss will become a bit easier. Can't wait to get started on this journey.

Congrats on the new baby. I just had my first back in Jan. I've got about 40 pounds that I'd love to get rid of. My mom had hypothyrodism and it is one of my biggest fears that I will too. Feel free to add me if you want!

Hello! I had my daughter 10 months ago via C-Section -- I know the drill. I have worked hard to lose 45 pounds in the last year and still have another 10-15 to go. Feel free to add me as a friend. I am on here daily and would love to offer/receive support. Have an awesome day!
  • Hi and welcome!

Wow, youve been through a lot, but you sound really positive and motivated and thats brilliant, well done! Congratulations on your little bundle of joy - I have 2 children and I do miss the baby days sometimes! I think it is totally possible to lose weight while breastfeeding - as long as you are sensible and dont crash diet or anything then it's fine - as long as the baby is at least 2 months old (ie: once supply is established), and as long as you eat over 1500 calories a day. Remember that breastfeeding burns extra calories anyway - yippee! www.kellymom.com has a section on breastfeeding and nutrition thats helpful.

Good luck on your weight loss journey!

  • Thank you all for the warm welcome!!! You all are awesome .

Mummyflippers~ I just met with my lc and she reminded me , I still had 6 weeks before I could start ( baby 12 weeks old) my lifestyle changes. I figure the next 6 weeks I can still use mfp to track my foods and what exercise I get now. Get the habit started now. I can't wait to really get started but establishing my already low supply is very important.
