I just did the MA one 2 weeks ago. It rained for 3 days before ours, so there wasn't much you could do about traction. It really depends on your course, if there's a lot of wooded area, a crosstrainer might work, if it rained recently and you expect a lot of mud and inclines, then football cleats might be better. Really the biggest thing you can do is start in the FRONT of your heat. I got stuck in the middle behind a lot of walkers and a very narrow path, which meant I was stuck walking for a good fifth of the race, which sucked as I know I could have cut at least 3 to 5 minutes off my time, I wasn't really tired at the end, just frustrated with the mud, and the people walking 3 wide in the path, forcing you to either run in the difficult portion, or ask them to move over so you could get by at which point you almost always got a dirty look (really? this is a race you know).

Did the Warrior Dash in PA. It was a lot of fun. Be ready for anything. Also, wear running shoes that you don't care about anymore. They will get dirty and people often donate them at the end. Mostly just have fun.

I just did one on June 25th in Amesbury MA. Amazing..it poured before, and during and stopped when we were done. Lots of mud. Make sure you have sneakers that have tread on the bottom. You'll be fine Good luck and have fun!

I did the AZ Warrior Dash in April. Had a great time. I wore Salomon Tech Amphibian shoes which are meant for land or water. They worked well, but it looked like most people ran it with normal running shoes. None of the obstacles were so difficult that you would really need to train specifically for them. I'd say if you can make it through a 5K and you're strong enough to climb a ladder, you can make it through this. A lot of people walked most of it anyway. It's a pretty fun event. Of course if you're looking to be competitive and are trying to win, you might want to train a little more for it.

I ran the one in the Poconos (with about 15 friends) on June 12th. Best stinkin' day I've had in a while. Be prepared to leave your shoes there, I'd were your oldest shoes an no socks, that's what I did. They accept old shoes to get recycled. Unless you are in primo shape ( that's not me for sure) you'll end up walking part of the course because of the water, mud, streams, etc.

Training advice would be to do intervals and then do an exercise in between i.e. run 1/4 to 1/2 mile do 20 -30 push ups, jumping jacks, etc and repeat a bunch of times.

Best advice is to just have fun, in our group we had all levels and made a pact to finish together. We ended up running in small groups then met up at the final mud pit and all dove in at the same time. We are already making plans for next year.

Definitely take extras clothes, a towel and a great attitude. Good luck!

BTW the turkey leg goes about 1200 calories!

There is a warrior dash on Sept. 10th and then Hell Run on th 17th. I think I"ve decided to do Hell Run. It's 30 minutes away vs. the 2 hour drive to warrior dash. I just missed the logan warrior dash. Something to look forward to for next year! Hell Run is at Legend Valley near Newark/Heath Ohio. Right on I - 70 between Columbus and Zanesville. Here is the website! www.hellrun.com if you are going to sign up let me know. I'm signing up Friday. Be cool to just say hi!
