Sugar Consumption

I'm having trouble staying within my sugar consumption guidelines on here. This morning, I had a bowl of Kelloggs Special K Chocolatey Delight and a cup of Sugar Free Chocolate & Vanilla Swirl Pudding (it's a Monday . . . gotta have some chocolate ). In a little bit, for a snack, I'm having an apple. But, I've already logged everything up to the apple and that will put me at 33 grams of sugar when my daily allowance is 29!!
Eek. How do you control that? I mean, I thought that the apple would be alright . . . but apparently there are more natural sugars in it than I thought!

Hmmm-I haven't even been watching my sugars. What's the purpose that you are?
I pay close attention to fat and calories0 -
I'm only alloted 24g of sugar a day according to MFP. But that's impossible to do even if I just eat fruits and veggies throughout the day. Lately, if it's fruit or veggies, I only count 1/4 of the sugar and even then I still go over. I'm interested in hearing what everyone else has to say about this. :indifferent:0

I have family history of diabetes, so, I thought that sugar consumption would be an important thing for me to keep track of. :indifferent:
Maybe not? lol, I was getting worried. But, maybe I shouldn't? As long as I don't go wayyyyyy over in calories, or eat the wrong type of foods, the sugar content should be alright, right?! I don't know . . . :grumble:0 -
Diabetes runs in my family too, which is why I do keep track of my sugars. But I'm thinkin' if I'm losing the weight anyway, and I'm at least eating the right kinds of foods, then it will balance itself out. I am sitll very careful with what I eat. I don't know either. I really need to set up an appointment with my doc. Ya know what? I'm gonna do that right now, while I'm thinking about it.0

I probably need to do that, as well. I have papers from a visit back in July when I was supposed to have blood work done (just getting things checked), but I never went because I started a new job. Now, I'm working 8:30 to 5 and can't get to the hospital, lol. Catch 22.
But, thanks everybody for the input! And, thanks in advance to anyone who replies after this. :flowerforyou:0 -
I watch my sugars also and was having that same problems. Through several different sources I've been told not to worry if they are natural sugar, like in fruit. I still keep note of them, but I generally just ignore the nat. sugar on here.0

Try eating eggs (or egg whites) for breakfast... sugars from cereals and milk will quickly add up.0

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with the sugar problem!
For me it's the FRUIT! There is so much fiber and sugar in fruit that I am constantly going above on my sugars....and I'm only having two servings of fruit a day!
According to Health Guide Canada we are suppose to have 7 -12 servings of fruits and veggies / day so as long as the calories are were they are suppose to be then it should be all right.

Increased sugar allows your body to make more ATP. I take in 200-300 grams of carbohydrates a day, mostly from whole grain foods. This amount allows me to perform better as an athlete.
I can't say that I understand diabetes and it's management as well as someone who suffers from it, but I do know that many manage their sugar by diet. According to one authority "Generally, carbohydrates should make up about 50 percent of the daily calories ( with the accepted range 40-60 percent)."
Here is the link. It is very informative and helped me to understand it better.

"It is important to realize that sugar is not the only carbohydrate that you have to "control". The body will convert all carbohydrates to glucose - so eating extra servings of rice, pasta, bread, fruit or other carbohydrate foods will make the blood sugar rise. Just because something doesn't have sugar in it doesn't mean you can eat as much as you want. Your meal plan is designed so that the carbohydrate content of your meals remains as consistent as possible from day to day."0
