I got my new HRM

Okay guys...I got my new HRM and used it with Jillians BFBM! It says I burned 793 calories??? Does that sound right or maybe my HRM isn't set up right. I just can't believe I burned that much when the database says its like 200-300 less than that for circuit and aerobic exercises. What has to be entered into the HRM to make it accurate? I entered my weight and max heart rate. I don't really know if there is anything else I needed to do. It is a timex race trainer hrm!

Does it ask for your age, height, weight, sex? If not, RETURN IT.0

Yes & yes!0

Having done the workout myself...It is mostly cardio so it is highly likely you did burn those calories. Highest my HRM recorded for that workout is around 600, personally.0

Doesnt ask for height and age...just weight unless it does somewhere and i haven't figured it out yet but i don't think so0

I'm on my 2nd HRM got my 1st one at ...laugh..Walmart... of all places... I know, junk... returned it when it told me my HR was 200 then 20 a few seconds later.. was too complicated too. Then went to Sports Authority and got this simple easy Polar brand one .. LOVE it so easy asks age/ ht/ wt/ gender etc. and it has a really nice chest strap with the transmitter removable so you can wash the strap

what brand is it? Cheap ones aren't that great nor consistent. Does it have the chest strap and do you input your measurements? These are important features a good one will have. A good HRM will cost $70 and up, the cheapest good ones are the Polar FT4 or FT7 , TImex Ironman is a good one. Garmin makes some nice ones too but they get pricey with the GPS features.
Yours may be working fine. Keep using it and see if you are getting consistent readings with your workouts and see what other readings you are getting for other workouts besides the Jillian workout.0 -

I love my FT40 -
I got the Timex Race Trainer highest rated in womens fitness magazine for over $1000

Also if you sweat a ton, and I mean a ton, then this can cause issues with the HRM. I used a polar ft4, great product!, but I sweat profusely sometimes when running and sometimes I would have issues with the readings, similar to the inaccuracies people report when trying to use polar HRMs in the swimming pool. Gross I know that I was sweating as much as being submerged in a pool!!! haha lol :-)0

Yea Timex's are junk. I had one like your's(that you could only enter weight and age into) and it told me that for 30 min of walking on a treadmill at a speed of 3.0 at the highest incline that I burned 581 calories.. uh no!
Return it if you can and get a Polar. That's what I did and I never looked back.

No you're not...the database can be highly inaccurate as well. Return it and get a Polar! For $100 you can get a Polar FT7, which is what I have and it's wonderful! You won't regret it!0
