I have some totally awesome friends on mfp who are doing a great job losing weight. Right now, thought, I have a bit of a dilemma. I have this doctor that insists on blaming ALL of my problems on my weight... Well, I'd lost 35 pounds last time I sae him and began to exercise daily... Yet the problems continued and he still blamed weight.

This time I have an appointment for the 25th... And I want to have lost at lest 45 pounds by then.. Meaning I need to lose 4 more pounds by then.

I'm looking for someone who is willing/wanting to make the commitment to do the same these next couple of weeks with me!!

  • I would love to help you out but just to say, congratulations on all the previous weight lost. That doctor should have complimented you on that! He probably was worried about the long term health issues that might occur (God-forbid) I would know, my dad's a doctor :D haha

I'm curious though, what kinds of problems is he blaming on weight?

I am going to the Dr. on the 26th. I set a goal for myself awhile ago to lose at least 5 more pounds by then. That is only 2.5 lbs a week. We can do that! Of course, I am going out of town TWICE before then. I am going to have to be very diligent. Knowing you are counting on me just might help!
    What do you think>?

Omg. Everything. I have constant fatigue, bruising, headaches, fainting, bleeding excessively, hair loss, joint aches, rashes, fevers, infections, memory/concentration issues. I need him ti see that despite weight loss something is seriously wrong.. If I lose 4 pounds Iwill leave obese and enter over weight on his previous bmi scale.

You are doing awesome, since the Doc didn't say it. You've got to do what you've got to do, but I'd consider using my energy to either find a doctor who can listen or finding some research that connects your health issues to other than weight.

I would find another doctor; even if those problems are weight related that doesn't mean they should be ignored until you lose the weight.

ahh! I see what's he doing! okay, it's not the smartest thing but i get what the doctor is doing. okay, when you're "obese" or even "overweight" you tend to get tired easily and rushing right away to a new eating style isnt good. it should be something gradual so your body adjusts. so as your body adjusts, hormones inside it change so maybe your hair is falling out because of some change that happened last month because your body sort of refreshes everything monthly (hair, skin, etc..) the bruising, headache, excessive bleeding can mean that you have thin blood walls and that you need more of some kind of vitamin (sorry I don't remember it but you can look it up since you probably have the side affects that can help you get to your answer.) your joint aches might be lack of calcium and maybe you aren't stretching or not moving throughout the day frequent enough. If that isnt the case, than maybe you should check your posture or see what might cause it... the memory concentration part is a good one...hmm...maybe you are stressed out to the point you can't focus so you need to calm down to help you focus and relax..when you're relaxed you respond better and good response means good focus. that's what I'm assuming he is trying to show you I guess, but I have a feeling there is probably more to it. I'm assuming he just wants you healthy in the first place before he starts anything so everything else falls into place and so he can see if anything improves..

(This is something based on one of my dad's rants to my mom since she sort of has the same issues...I guess paying attention helps? hehe, I really hope it helps, but this isn't exactly what he said, this is from what I remember so I might have gotten something mixed up.)

It's terrible that your doctor isn't hearing what you are saying!! I have a friend who went through so much crap to put it bluntly cuz doctors weren't hearing her, when she finally got diagnosed with fibromayalgia, it was actually a relief. She finally had a diagnosis and no longer had to deal with the unknown! And she knew she wasn't crazy which she had been beginning to wonder. Perhaps ask the doctor about lupus, it is likely not that at all but could be worth having a look. It's about gettiing you feeling better again!!
