I DON'T DESERVE IT

As I have tried to lose weight one of my big problems has been my supersized family. When ever I'm around them the push food at me. "You are already skinny" (I'm not) "You've worked hard, you deserve it" I still have 25 lbs to go to even get to a healthy bmi. So last week when I was with my mom and she was trying to push icecream and fries at me with the "You deserve it" I thought "NO, I DON'T DESERVE TO GET SET BACK AGAIN....I DON'T DESERVE ANOTHER LUMP OF FAT ON MY A**, I DON'T DESERVE TO HAVE LOW SELF ESTEEM, I DON'T DESERVE TO DIE YOUNG OF HEART DISEASE" Now when I've worked a long day or I'm stressed and in a hurry I repete this to myself. It has worked wonders so far. Hope this helps someone else.

I have the same whenever I see my mum - who is also trying to lose weight!! - Last time we went out for food she forced me to have a dessert to the point I felt rather ill after and I really didn't want it...She classes going out as a treat and you have to have pudding because its a treat. She doesn't understand I will still try and be good and keep within my calories...

Deep down they thing they are doing good. I've seen this happen before too and it makes it so much harder.
Hang in there and try to explain to your mom what drives you, what a BMI is and how does this process of getting healthier works... if you haven't before that is.

....and you DO deserve to be healthy, live long and with less risk of diseases and injuries, feel better about yourself, and meet your goal.
Keep up your hard work. Maybe someday they'll catch on to why you're making the choices you are...

I love it!! That's a much better attitude.
All the advertisers have brainwashed us into believing that the best way to "reward" ourselves is by eating...and, speaking for myself, I fell for it hook, line and sinker. It's what got me here.
Now is the time to reprogram the way we percieve food and the food industry.

I know what you mean! People say to me...here....take one...it wont hurt you. You can't just go without. It bothers me the rest of the night when I go home and WISH I hadnt eaten something that someone "talked" me into. YEs, I am accountable for myself, but , it feels so awkward when someone is standing there looking at you as if you are crazy for not having one french fry, or one piece of candy or a small brownie...etc. It just makes me hungrier ....and makes me want to eat them all! Im fine when I ORDER food out....when I am at the grocery store etc. But, when someone invites you to their house , or takes food to work, and truly talks you into eating something......it feels bad. Yes, they are being nice....but, you are right, we have worked hard, and dont DESERVE to have another set back. Hanf in there.....and KEEP being strong! : )0

I was always brought up that food was a treat/award so I guess that's why I have food issues now! I'm tying to teach my children healthy eating habits like making good choices and stop eating when they're full (my husband tries to make them "clean" their plates and makes them feel guilty....he was brought up in a very traditional Italian family...ugh! another topic I'd have to write about!) anyways....you have a good attitude and keep thinking that way when your family tries to reward you to bad food choices!0

The thing about people close to you is . . . they don't necessarily want you to succeed. They don't even think about it, they do it like your family, passive agressive style. When you're all overweight together they can say "genetics," but when one person starts succeeding it makes them have to start realizing that genetics may not in fact be to blame. Accountability is a jagged pill to swallow.
My mom is much the same way. She talks about how healthy she eats, and she does during her main meals, but then she snacks the crap out of a day with really terrible options. She complains every time she comes to my house because I don't really keep ice cream and she "must have her daily dose of calcium." Seriously, drink a glass of skim woman! She and I were on vacation together back in April and we both were eating the same things, the difference was that on days I was running a 10K and weight lifting I would splurge on bloody mary's and crab dip fries . . . she would splurge too, just without the workout on top of it.0 -
Way to go. I exercise and work my *kitten* daily off to maintain muscle and keep my body fat in single digits. I monitor everything I eat. Ironically EVERY time I seen my mom, she thinks I am skinny. I am right about where I should be weight wise. I try to explain that people have grown so large for someone to not carry much fat this is what we look like. Typically I just think about my runs and interval training in 100 degree weather. It keeps me honest.
Parents love their children I swear it is natural for them to constantly want to feed us! My daughter is 6 years old and I am not a freak about everything she eats but already she knows the difference between, Proteins, carbs, sugars and the like. Its because I love her I want her to live as long as possible.0 -
Sometimes people around you are uncomfortable with change. Even good change.
You keep your feet rooted in the ground that you are doing something healthy for the long run...they will get used to it.

the reason we let people talk us into it is because we're secretly craving it - they're not giving us any excuses that we haven't thought of ourselves, we've all said in our heads "I've worked hard, I deserve a treat"and then dismissed it because we know that's not what we want in teh long term. Other people can't convince you to lose weight, you have to do it yourself - therefore when dieting you've already conquered the hardest person to defeat - yourself. Everyone else should be easy after that,0
