Just out of curiousity.....

So I've been wondering about something for a while now. When you add in your exercise, MFP allows you more calories to eat. It also allows you more fat, sugar, fiber, and protein....now the part I am curious about...Why won't it allow you more sodium? I am not saying I want to eat more sodium! LOL I try my hardest to avoid it, but sometimes it is just impossible. I guess it's just one of those things I noticed and it made me super curious!

The macronutrients (carbs, protein, fat) are calculated on percentages, so they go up as your calorie allotment goes up. Fiber and sugar also goes up as they are both considered carbohydrates. But sodium isn't in the macronutrient category :)

Sodium also makes your body retain water, so always try to keep it to a minimum. Good luck!

Thank you!!! I notice it every day once I log my exercise and always wondered why! I really need to aim for even less sodium, but it's sooo hard sometimes!!

I was looking at your diary and noticed that your "lunch wrap" is very high in sodium. May I ask what it contains? I bet you can substitute some ingredients to bring that down :)

Sodium is SO hard to moderate. Every time you eat out, or eat anything from a box, or any kind of processed meat, pasta, wrap or even condiment you get killed by it.

I've honestly given up on it.

I have been wondering this very same thing so I am glad you posted it.

Sodium is a killer for me too bc I am a working Mom and precooked food for lunch is almost always on the menu a couple days a week at least. I do my best to avoid it but sometimes I just don't have a choice.

Thanks again for asking this question.

Perhaps the answer is not to give up on it, but try to eat less of the things in your list. . . . :)

Sodium is not the only thing wrong with eating a lot of those foods. In fact, it can often be used as a warning sign of sorts.
