Good morning!
How is everyone today? Are you sick people feeling better yet? I hope so! :flowerforyou:
I don't know what's on the agenda today. Another busy day. Two therapists coming over at the same time this morning. (4 weeks left I think!) Then my family is leaving some time this afternoon. Which I am always sad about, but we will see them again in about two months.
Yesterday, lots of walking and my push ups. And eating out. I used to eat out everyday and now I don't want to. My mom said, "You sure are looking slim these days." "Really?" Must be the push ups. I am not as small as I was in February by any means, but I think because my shoulders look broader it makes me look smaller. So when I said, "Really?" my mom said, "Yeah, looks like you've been working out." Yippee!!!!!
What's strange is that I quit counting and I'm thinking I am losing weight. The scale doesn't show it but I don't care...right now anyway. My jeans fit even at that TOM, so that's a good sign. And since I'm not pregnant this month I can look at it as another 4 weeks to get some weight off!
Also I am thinking about doing the elimination diet with my son again. Breakfast would be my only problem. I hate oatmeal and that's about all I can have. So I will do some research and think about it. Not only would I lose a few pounds but I might find some energy and actually start liking healthy foods! But I would be SOO tempted! OKay, shutting up now.
Today: eat better, drink water, and may take the day off (not like I need the day off!)

I hope everyone is better and happy this morning! Have an awesome day!

MM - there are Quinoa flakes that make a really good cereal. I know they have them at Whole Foods - I will check Central Market today if you have one of those nearby - I don't know if they are available at HEB (which I don't remember seeing last time I was in DFW) - for those that don't know, HEB is the best all around store. It's almost exclusively in Texas, so their delivery trucks never go that far, thus better stuff. And it does stand for Howard E. Butts - no joke. Anyway, look for them in the gluten free section, if there is one, or next to the hot cereals.

Yesterday - bike & yoga. Today more bike errands and some walking - I feel so European running my errands on my bike. Today is: voting, going to the store, and picking up an alteration. If I could find one really cheap, I would considering getting one of those baby tow alongs, that attach to the back of the bike, for my groceries.

Can't resist: Did you hear that HEB and Whole Foods were talking about a merger? The new company is going to be Butt whole foods.

Ha ha ha! On the merger, Mary. I miss HEB. Good stores. We have a Central Market around here somewhere. I'll have to look into the Quinoa. Thanks!

Hi everyone, yes this sick person is feeling better. Thanks for asking. MM have you tried oatmeal with peanut butter and maple syrup? I put a tablespoon of each in and it keeps me going from about 5:30 am till about 10. We have no whole food stores near us. We have a good organic store about an hour away. MM isn't nice when people notice all the work you've done? Every once in a while someone will say "hey you look great, what have you been doing?" It makes the hard work easier.

Have finished my cardio for the day, so anything else is extra.

Plan on getting my waters in and some housework. The only other piece I am working on is getting myself to eat my meals slower. I always seem hungry.

Boy I wish we lived close enough to do anything on a bike but were in 10 miles on a dirt road and then its another 7 to town on pavement. I would like to get my bike rehabed next summer and just ride on the hill here. Have a good day Mary, we have no early voting but I am working on election day so I will see everybody in town. It's always a good time working the election. But a very long day. We live in a town small enough that it is all done on paper ballots. Lots of counting. My eyes will cross by the end of the evening.

Hope everyone has a happy healthy day!

    Hi everybody,

Well, after one day off wheat, my symptoms are greatly improved. So, cool and damn. I do think I'm going to look into a full food allergy/intolerance blood panel, which my doctors have been urging me to have done for years, but I haven't had the insurance to cover.

Today is a training session (hooray!) the first in three weeks. I'm going to do 30 minutes of elliptical prior to it.

Also, as always, water, vits iron, etc.

No wheat again. (I am amazed at how much I crave something that my body hates so much.)

I'm finding it so hard to trust myself with "honoring my hunger". The problem right now is, due to hormones, I'm really hungry. (like could eat continuously hungry) So, it's hard to find a balance. . .

    anyways,
    Take care of yourselves!:flowerforyou:

That would be fun - to see everyone you know in town. Although I guess you can't really talk to them. No early voting? Crazy.

I like running errands, but I wouldn't mind having some uninterrupted bike place - somewhere I could go more than 2 miles without a traffic light or 4 way stop.

V - you need insurance for a food allergy test? 'splain please. Good luck honoring the hungry beast inside.

    V,
I have heard, since dealing with my son's allergies, that our bodies crave what we are allergic to. It's very strange. If I can be of any help of finding products for you without wheat, let me know. And I just went through the ravenously hungry stage too. Rather annoying when you are trying to watch how much you eat.

No early voting here, either. At least the polls stay open late so it's not too hard to get there after work.
I live in the city, so I probably could do some errands on a bike if I had one (and a basket or something). I like the idea of being close enough to things to do that. It's just that 6 months of the year is icy and slushy, so I'm a little bit afraid to ride. (They're talking snow by Halloween.) I remember back in college living in a distant dorm (about 1/2-3/4 mile from the main campus) and falling down several times trying to get home one day because of the ice. Ouch.

Glad you are feeling better, Karen and Viv. That oatmeal sounds tasty. I also love muesli with yogurt - I let the oats absorb the liquid in the yogurt for 5 minutes or so before eating it.

MM - don't you love moms? Mine gave me such a boost when she was here a couple of months ago, telling me how slim I looked. :smooched: Congrats on the clothes fitting better, too.

My weight is down again - and I am no longer overweight according to the BMI chart. (Take that, plateau!) I don't really feel like going shopping, but all of the pants I have are loose. I'm not complaining, though.

Have a great day, all! :flowerforyou:

Sorry to hear you are allergic to wheat Vivia, I would definately find that a bummer. I love bread, but it does a number on my calories and carbs when I eat it so I try to limit it. What does that leave you with to eat? I've never thought to much about what would happen if I had to cut wheat out. I might have to check into it just for the info.

So cp005e where do you hail from. I come from Vermont and we have alot of little towns. I am expecting snow tomorrow from the weather reports. But it won't last, it might be here a day and then we probably won't get snow for another 2or 3 weeks. I eat yogurt and my own homemade brand of granola and I do what you do to I let it sit for a little while.

It is fun to know almost all your town, but yeah we pretty much limit it to how is the family doing on election day. I was so dissapointed in the small turnout for the state primary here. We have so many advantages other countries don't have and we (as a country) don't participate and we don't appreciate the life we have here. Well have to go drive a bus run, so I will look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Fight the good fight ladies! Karen

V - you need insurance for a food allergy test? 'splain please. Good luck honoring the hungry beast inside.

I spent time as an uninsured individual before I moved up here. The ALCAT (sp?), which I'm told is the best food allergy doo-dad (the technical term  ) costs about $1000 if you have to pay for it out of pocket.

Now, I have supplemental insurance (thanks, union!) and the provincial coverage. I've been to four doctors in the past six months (I've lost count on the number of visits) and my total out of pocket so far: $15.00 for a lab fee that wasn't covered. I think if I just ask my GP to order up one of these tests, I can get it for free. The naturopath (also covered by my insurance) did a "meridian test" that well, I'm just skeptical about. . .but it made a big, ugly noise when she checked whatever part of me tells the machine I have a wheat problem. If I'm radically cutting things from my diet, I'd just like to be sure that I need to.

And yeah, Karen. . .bread is my downfall. I was having lunch a few days ago and it consisted of a beautiful roll and olive oil and I said I could truly eat just that for the rest of my life.

For our bodies to crave what is poisonous is a drag. Call the wah-mbulance for me! What bread are you using MM? I've had some success with brown rice bread, but some of it is awful. It's date night tonight, and I've picked a very celiac-friendly place to try. (the bonus of big city living is that there are several of these to choose from.)

Viv, kinnikinnick bread and bun mix is very good. All you have to do is add water so it makes it super easy! I do not like the refridge bread. I make it from scratch because it's so easy. Check it out! Really it's very good and moist and I don't think it leaves an after taste.

    Update:

just got back from the gym where I burned 750 calories doing a kick-*kitten* trainer assisted workout. Yikes. We did a lot of full body stuff with barbell. I'll be cursing her name in the morning, but I love her right now.

Intriguing - how long was the workout?

I did 35 minutes on the elliptical, then an hour with the trainer. Everything we did was weighted. So, squats, lunges, leg lifts, etc with a 30 lb barbell, then chest press, then bicep/tricep exercises, etc. We did three sets of everything. . .and it all must have really raised my heart rate. But, it was all really basic exercises, just with pretty heavy weights and a lot of each exercise (each set was 15. . .so by the last set I was really feeling it.)

I expected it to be around a 500 calorie burn, so I was excited to see my bigger number. I just had to run down my stairs to get my delivery dinner (it's snowing here. . . .bleargh.) and I'm already a little sore, so tomorrow will prove to be interesting.

Oh, and I'm so jealous you can bike. Although lots of people do it here, I just don't have the nerve or the room to store a road bike. For years I didn't own a car and biked everywhere. *sigh* So, do an extra errand for me.

Hi Karen - I'm in Western NY (right across the lake from Vivia). I like Vermont. We were just in Western Mass over the weekend - I can always tell when I'm in New England because of all the little towns with the same names (like North Whatever, East Whatever, Whateverport, etc etc) But I love them. They were saying 'snow mixed with rain' tonight, but I only see the rain so far. Good thing we've got our snow plow guy lined up! Shoveling is good exercise, but when I have to go to work... I'd rather sleep.

Hey Viv - have you ever tried lifting 85 pounds to see what it was like when you were heavier? I was astonished at how much 40 pounds is - I should try it now with 50. I adore a nice, crusty bread, so I'll definitely call the wah-mbulance  on your behalf. What the heck is a meridian test? Sounds kinda kooky.

Alright, time for me to get away from the boards and back to work. Evening! :flowerforyou:

Nice posts today ladies! That was a fun read :flowerforyou:

Interesting twist with the wheat, it doesn't mix with fibro! My mom eliminated it from her diet and felt significantly better. She splurges every now and then, but ends up so "bad-day" that she regrets it. Just thought I'd share.

I did my trainer session today and squeezed in a 2-mile jog. I'm seriously frustrated by the lower body stuff. I used a medicine ball and extended the reps and still don't feel that burn. I guess the next step is to double what I'm given and hope to feel something. I made it up to 6 push-ups on my toes while doing push-up planks (they SUCK @$%: push-up, hold 10 sec, repeat x10).

Doing it tomorrow and thurs. too. We are hosting the collegiate mountain bike nationals this weekend, on top of my fri & sat volleyball games and sat m&w soc matches, so I'll be slammed with coverage duty this weekend and don't know how much intentional exercise I'll have time for. Better now than never! :ohwell:

On a good note, I have switched over to "grazing" mode and seem to be consuming fewer calories. I guess I'm snacking at a 3, so when I sit down to a meal, i'm around 6 and have less room for seconds. Fruit loops are amazing! They fill my sweet tooth craving and are packed with so many vitamins & minerals they're like little vitamins! A whole cup for under 120 cals, Yipee!

Alrighty, off to bed for me. Long day tomorrow: rug rat to daycare, workout, meeting, teach class, on road for vb game in Charlotte so I won't get home till around midnight
