  OK - here is the deal! My husband does the grocery shopping and does a decent job (getting much better) However, there are still tempting things like cookies and ice cream and fatty foods that I cannot seem to stay away from....we have to have these things in our house because we have two growing teens and one little two year old - they dont need to be on a diet nor do I expect them to be forced to eat only what I eat. So the big question is how in the world do you constantly keep yourself away from the yummy stuff?????? I am so dang weak - I feel hopeless and then when I eat it I feel so guilty but I still keep doing it....why?????

    Moderation!
  • Keep the goodies in a cupboard or pantry....out of sight, out of mind! Or decide what you want for a snack BEFORE you go into the kitchen - less chance of just opening the cupboard/fridge door & picking whatever jumps out at you. :)

I know how you feel.. my husband loves junk and I can't force him to eat healthy. I got to the point once where I actually considered taping yellow caution tape across the kitchen doorway after dinner! But I do find that the longer you resist the easier it gets.

Everyone has their own little tricks though.. hope you find some that help :)

How about not keeping stock of them in the house? Make getting those things more of a special occasion treat instead of a daily thing. They don't have to be on a diet and eat what you eat. But, there's nothing wrong with teaching them now how to eat healthy and learn good habits now! This way, they wont need MFP when they are older! Make it a Saturday night thing (or whatever) that you guys go to the store together and pick out a yummy dessert for the night. Only buy enough for that night and maybe let the kids rotate who gets to pick it.

Just a thought; may help until you are less tempted by those things.
  • This is difficult. I'm sorry for your struggle with this. Is your husband overweight? I have the problem of going in the kitchen and overindulging on ANYTHING even healthy choices. But they become unhealthy when you over eat it.

Try moderation. Maybe two cookies or a small serving of ice cream.

We keep popsicles in the house..they are 40 calories of refreshing goodness and go out for ice cream as a family...since it is more expensive to go out we don't induldge in that treat as often...kids/teens need to learn the skill of moderation and how to enjoy food as a treat too and part of that learning about treats is not having them all the time....
Also...I have "treat" foods...like fiber plus bars etc for me to enjoy in a healthier portion controlled way that can curb the craving for cookies....my kids like them...the love quacker 90 calorie chocoalte mint granola bars...slighlty healthier alternative to chips ahoy...know what I mean?

This may sound odd, but I am less likely to eat the junk food when it is in my house, than when it isn't.

When I don't have it available to me I feel like I am depriving myself of the tings that I enjoy, and then I end up going to 7-11 and eating all kinds of garbage. If it's in the house, I might have a little bit here and there, but in the end it works out to be less, and less often.
