lifting weights

I always ask this question but never get a good answer.. I am wanting to build some muscle..(Not look like a body builder- not that i ever could) The question is do I use heavier weights fewer reps or lighter weights more reps. Does it matter..Please help..

    It depends on what you want, do you want show muscle or strength muscle? For strength, lift 3 times a week with something along the lines of 5 sets and 5 reps.
