I am generally very active and routinely enjoy activities such as CrossFit (for the last 10 months), running/walking, swimming, hunting, fishing, biking (did a 20 mile ride recently for a well-known charity), camping, and even water skiing on occasion. I even took Taekwondo for 10 yrs previously. Since quitting martial arts after an unrelated back injury, I gained about 45-50 lbs in 5-6 yrs. I have encountered a great deal of difficulty in achieving my weight loss & fitness goals due partially to some metabolic/health issues, increasing age, and less activity than I previously performed as well as some poor (either too little or inappropriate foods-such as the Southern cooking that I grew up with and the fact that I love to cook) eating habits. I recently (3 weeks ago) had rotator cuff surgery & my activity level has decreased as a result, so I am struggling to lose weight even more. I generally eat very healthy foods but have a tendency to occasionally skip meals which only slows my metabolism more. I have high hopes that the food & ex diary with be very beneficial with monitoring my progress & finding the pitfalls! I am optimistic!

My mom had rotator cuff surgery a few years back. She found it helpful to run on the elliptical without using her arms. Just an idea.

@WifeMom: Good idea, I have worked in physical therapy as an LPTA for the past 17 yrs and did 20 min on the semi-recumbent (seated) bike yesterday after doing my own therapy where I work. I'll try the elliptical next week when I go! Hope your mom is doing well these days!

@msnewbootie: Thanks, and I really am looking forward to the community support too; nothing sucks more than feeling like you're all alone. Congrats on your 6# loss!

Welcome! I joined this site just a little over 3 weeks ago. I've lost 10 lbs as of today and I'm LOVING this site. I find it motivates me to exercise and I'm a MUCH more mindful eater. I've had weight issues almost my whole life, so this is such a blessing for me. Good luck and really work hard not to go over your allotted calories every day and you'll do fine! Make yourself a ticker. It's fun to check it and see your progress. Have fun with it! By the way, I'm planning to posting a new profile pic soon...I didn't realize how fat I looked in this picture, but now that I'm seeing a slimmer face in the mirror... it really makes me want to take a picture. I still can't believe I'm down 10 lbs....feels like I'm seeing the wrong number on the scale! HA!! LOVE THIS SITE SOOOO MUCH!!

Thanks VS & congrats on the loss! I'm actually well under my allotted calories, probably too much... Getting around 700-900 a day out of 1400 or so allowed. Trying not to skip meals in order to jump start my metabolism. I guess that's what is most frustrating. I try to eat well with the exception of skipping breakfast occasionally which I know is bad; and I normally (not counting the last 3 weeks after rotator cuff surgery) exercise frequently and at a very vigorous level but the weight doesn't seem to want to go. I refuse to give up and hope that with support & more frequent monitoring of my ex & food; that I will finally see a difference.

Way to go Lisa! Just keep it up and those pounds should fall right off! :-) I can't believe I've gone from 10 to 24 lbs since my last post to you! This site really works. Hang in there.:glasses:
