So i don't have a HRM... but I did 30DS then 5 12min miles. MFP says thats around 740 calories burned. I ate a yogurt banana and trail mix for breakfast. A GINORMOUS salad full lunch (with 2 HB eggs in it) had an apple and peanut butter for a snack, and had steak potaotes, green beans and watermelon for dinner. I am WAY FULL!!! Butall that only added up to about 1230calories. So when you take away the 700+ I burned I have only had 500 calories???? NOW WHAT???? Do you eat your exercise calories??? IF so how many??? Itt's 7pm my time... I thought I might grab a late snack around 9 if I am feeling less ful. But I don't like to eat that late... HELP

If you are full, don't force yourself to eat.

I think your fine, but have a tablespoon of peanut butter if you want to add more calories or a handful of nuts

You don't have to eat back your exercise calories if you don't want to. As long as you ate 1200 to begin with, you still get all the nutritional value of the food that you eat. The 1200 number is recommended because that is the minimum you need to get a full day's nutrition. Things like iron, vitamin A and vitamin C are not depleted by exercise. Actually, as long as you are not making a general habit of it, it is perfectly okay to eat less than 1200 calories in a day. The body generally only needs 700 calories to support itself. Starvation mode takes several weeks of consistent under-eating before it becomes a real issue.

Well, exercise is going to suppress your appetite so you go drink your calories. Make a protein shake or something and sip on it. It won't take up much volume in your stomach but will give you the nourishment you NEED. I don't like to eat late either, but if I haven't hit my target, you bet I'm going to have that snack or shake or whatever, even if it's 11 pm.

It's worked for me. Maybe not ideal but it works. Or plan ahead next time if you know you are going to have a high burn day, eat a bigger breakfast, dip that bread with your salad in some olive oil or something.

YOU NEED TO EAT. Sorry you're full, but find a way to get the nourishment to your cells.

your body is telling you that you are full. so listen. if you are worried about it, munch a hand full of almonds or drink a glass of chocolate milk. but if you needed food, your body would let you know:wink:

I agree, don't force yourself if you are full! Only eat if you are hungry! Maybe you should try making a protein shake or something to have after your workouts...that will give you some more "good" calories and help with recovery.

it doesnt say your supposed to eat that many calories a day (inc your exercise calories)
its simply saying dont go over the number, if your too full, then dont eat any more, id rather be under then over!

Listen to your body -- it knows best! Don't eat if you are physically full!

Generally, if it's a day or two where you are really low on cals, it won't be a big deal. The deal is that we are expected to eat our net calories over the long run so that we don't become sick, unheathy or hit a plateau. Possibly tomorrow, or the next day, you'll end up eating foods that are higher in cals and it will balance out over the long run. I've only NET'd around 800 cals today and I'm not hungry, but tomorrow I'm going out for dinner and might go over. I won't feel guilty tomorrow because I did okay today. :)

i have had some days where I was just eating what I could but it has taken a toll on my energy I need more calories to run and burn over 500 calories per session! So maybe its late now but next time try to plan and eat a bit more! Someone mentioned to drink your calories that is so true! You can do it by using a recovery drink, chocolate milk for example!

you can eat a couple tablespoons of olive oil or peanut butter to add some calories. i recommend the extra virgin olive oil over the peanutbutter for more calories and it doesn't have the carbs and sugar that the peanut butter has. it is even good for you raw and in moderation.

I agree that drinking some healthy calories will be of help...maybe you can eat something a little more calorie-dense the next day?
  • You don't HAVE to eat back all of your burned calories, as long as you eat the 1200 net you're fine. But like everyone else said you can always throw in a protein shake. I have the problem of not hitting my 1200 mark because I am watching what i eat and here I am at 930 eating walnuts just to hit 1235, it's hard in the beginning but it will get easier. Remember just try not to go under the 1200 calorie mark too often and you will be fine.
