Emotional and Lazy Eater...How to deal with it???

I just realized how much of an emotional and lazy eater I have become. I eat when I'm bored, I eat when I'm happy...and overall I just eat whatever is in my sight that is easy to eat and appeasing to look at. Mainly chips and junk food... I have fruit in the house but it just not the same. I actually just walked right passed them to get to my chips because I was upset. How do you deal...Any suggestions??? Because now I see how I got 200 and I want to go down in weight and not back up.

The best advice I can think of is to get the junk out of the house. I have popcorn, slim fast bars, fibre one bars and such in my house instead of the more fatting junk food. I am the type that if I want junk I will eat even junk that I really don't like if it is in the house.0

The really easy way around it except for full-on not keeping unheathy things like chips in your house. Since you seem like you can't help yourself when you have them in the house, you should get rid of them and just eat fruits or vegetables instead.
Sometimes people eat when they're actually bored or thirsty. You can also try drinking a glass of water or two if you think you're hungry as well. Maybe chew gum?
You can do it! If you've admitted that you do this, it's easier to stop and make better decisions right?0 -
I don't buy the chips so they can't be in my sight. I do stay full on healthy foods, vegetables and fruits with a little protein are very satisfying and can keep you full for a long time.
Develop a hobby that will "take you away" like maybe scrap-booking, reading, photography with a digital camera; all can be very rewarding. I can get so very involved in my activities that I "forget" to eat.
If I have to have a salty snack, I make popcorn in my presto popper and spray it with"I can't believe it's not butter" and very lightly salt it with flavored popcorn salt. The MW kind has too many chemicals for me that ruin the taste of the corn.
Good luck and remember that you are in control not the snacks.0 -
I can't have in the house. period. However, since I started working out, I find I don't stress eat anymore. So maybe finding a workout routine will help with emotional eating. Good luck!0

This might sound like overkill to you and/or others, but you ought to try checking into a program called "DBT". It's a psych treatment that helps with emotional regulation and coping. You can find a DBT group online through yahoo groups (there are others as well) and there is homework, etc., to help you find better ways to manage emotions.
IMO, MANY people on MFP suffer from emotional eating, just like an alcoholic drinks when they feel X, Y or Z. Just my two cents.

Dont keep junk food in the house, and cut up fruit and veggie stick and put them in the fridge on a plate for your go to snack... or put in ziplock bags for on the go or to make you feel like your having something out of a bag like chips. if you are craving something sweet microwave a sliced apple for a few moments sprinkle with cinnimon. or try having dry roasted chickpeas to replace chips. Good luck0
