How Low can you go?

Hi
Before I start, PLEASE do not respond if you are going to be negative against the lower carb way of eating!
I have been following low carb for 12 days (around 40 grams net carbs per day) simply because I have been calorie counting for nearly 3 years and the last 12 months I have not had good results and struggled to get past the last 15 lbs.
Once I have done this 2 weeks, I intend to slowly introduce more carbs (obviously healthy ones!) and lower my calories again.
What I would like to know is for those who have been watching there carbs/calories together, what is the best figures that you have found that work for you?
Can you have a few more healthy calories if you keep your carbs down?
Thanks

I suggest you set your calories at 10% of your current weight. Then you aren't afraid to overeat. Then decide what your percentages will be. Mine are 70% fat/ 25% protein/ 5% carbs, but you will figure that out as you go along. Concentrate on your carb intake not anything else. If 5% carbs of your 10% body weight works out to 35 grams a day then that is your target. All the rest will line up for protein and fats. Some days I am over, some days I am under. Just keep your eye on your carb grams and you will be successful.0 -
Thanks LaJauna. I just had a look into the goals like you suggest and if I go as low as 5% carbs it works out at 18 grams per day (which I am averaging double that now).
I am struggling to keep to less than 40 so I would not want to go any lower than that really.0 -

What is your current weight? If your current weight is low then don't worry about calories for a week or two. Just eat a clean induction. I told you to figure out what percentage in calories, 35 grams of carbs a day would be. Let that be your target. Keep your carbs under 40 grams a day and you should be fine. It isn't the calories that count it is the carbs in your calories that matter...where do they come from? Veggies first and formost is where your carbs should come from, then cheeses and nuts.0 -
Hey, can I ask you to clarify that? I'm dumb I guess - 10% of your weight? So if I'm 116lbs I'm sure you're not telling me to eat 11.6 cals a day! BUt I don't get what you are suggesting :ohwell:0

For me, 35-40 grams a day is about 5% because I am a big girl still (272 lbs) so it works out that level is about 5%. Hope that makes sense.0 -

I'm still quite heavy and so have a lot of stored fuel on my body ... aka FAT!
so I've decided to go quite low in my calories for the past 2 weeks ... under 1300.
I looked back at my food diary and I'd say I'm averaging 60ish total g of carbs a day.
Some days have been as low as 35. I've been eating some fruit lately so that's why mine is higher right now.
If I go too low I lose too much energy and just don't feel good. I never experienced the energy some people feel after induction carb levels. My friend keeps hers at 20 net or below and is flourishing.
I lost 11.8 lbs in two weeks after I switched! It felt good just to see that go even if it was mostly water.
It's been a great incentive to keep going!
Low carb has definitely worked for me in helping me stick to my food plan and weight loss program.
Good Luck to you and best of health! :flowerforyou:
I just made my diary public if you'd like to take a look at what I'm eating.0 -

Sorry, I am such a duffice. I meant 10 times....duh. I am 270 so my calorie "limit" should be 2700 cals a day.0 -

So 40 grams of carbs a day is about 10% of your daily calories. about 90 grams of protein a day (25%) with about 65+% of your calories coming from fats.0 -
Hi! My doctor told me that as long as you are in ketosis, you are burning fat. The amount of calories you eat dictates the speed by which you will lose. More cals=slower weight loss. As long as you stay in ketosis, though, he says this is fine.0
